As they say, there is only that, only the one self, not a personal self. And that is the problem. We believe we are the person, the separate entity, the individual. And that's understandable that we believe that because our parents told us when we learned words, that you are so and so, you are this person, this individual. And we've taken it on without investigation. And our parents probably understood it themselves. And that's the only way they could talk to you about it. Because we learned words from our parents. We weren't born with any words. And understand that the word is not the thing. Take the word water, can you drink it?
Take the word food. Fire doesn't burn your mouth. Can you cook with it? So this word is I or me. It implies that we are the separate entity, this individual. But then again, you look in the scriptures, the ancients that pointed it out down through the ages. And they'll tell you, it's non-duality. One without a second. Not two. And we put different labels or different words on. But the thing is that most of us have come to believe in a higher power. A power greater than ourselves. The one power. It was the one. Absolute. How can there be anything higher or lower? We believe ourselves to be humans.
And we've got all these human problems like fear, anxiety, stress, unhappiness, despair. All related. because of that concept or idea of separation, that we are separate from the true nature, the one essence. The recognition of that is what they call realisation or enlightenment. And we've got that concept that it's something we have to attain and get and become, not realising that that is all there is and the Mahavakya, the great mantra is, I am that, pointing out that it already is so and we take that I am to be the person, the separate entity, the individual. So we get lost in this idea of a separate entity, me, and that only me can be unhappy, only me can be depressed, guilty, shameful, me, the believed in this me, the sense of separation is the cause of all these problems.
But if it's one essence, only that, as they say, only that one essence, if it's one, then you and I and everything else can only be that one. So where does the sense of separation come in? You recognise that and understand that, that there is nothing separate and the part of me that's separate is the cause of all these problems. It is not just the art from it. It is the one essence, the one intelligence, the one life. It's patterning, shaping, forming, experiencing and expressing as everything. And that's the amazing wonderment of it all, in the different ways it can express, it can vibrate and express.
Through these words, we've taken on this idea that I am a person, and I am a person. I am not a person, I am a person. I am not a person, I am not a person. When your parents put the name on you, I am Bob or Gene or Jack or whatever your name might be, and somebody asks you who you are, you'll say I am that Gene or Jack, whatever my name might be. Instead of recognising that it's one essence, it's absolute, that I am the absolute, I am the totality. And have a think about that. If you are absolute, if you are the total, who can ever be superior to you?
Who can be inferior to you? And what would you want from anybody else? A lot of these problems that are going on in the world would cease from that understanding, that knowing, relaxing into that reality that you are, and being that, and letting it express in its naturalness. But instead of that, you're going to be the absolute. You're relating to being a person. Now take that word being. We call ourselves human beings. If you believe in God, you'll call God the supreme being, it's a greater being than what we are. But what if I take that word supreme and the word human out of it?
And try and separate the beingness, because everything is being. That's being a chair you're sitting on, isn't it? That's being a chair you're sitting on, isn't it? It's being the carbon in the room. It's being the space in the room. It's being the room. And can you negate the beingness? Can you say, I am not, I am not this absolute being, I am this person? You can negate the person when you recognise that that person is just a label you've got on yourself. It makes that personal sense temporary. It makes the separation seemingly real. And where the separation comes isolation. You've isolated yourself from the totality, the absolute.
Separate yourself into the individual, which when you investigate and look at it, is just a conceptual image. They tell you in the scriptures there's one Atman, one self. It's the Brahman self, or the Krishna self, or the absolute self. It's self-aware. It's self-being. It's self-knowing. Self-shining. Ever-fresh. It's that one self, patterning, shaping, forming. Experiencing and expressing as everything. Not divided, not two, because that's what they call it in the scriptures, non-duality. Non-duality meaning one without a second, not two. Nothing other than. We hear that, we think, because we've taken on this idea of separation, and taken it to be real. But it sounds a bit of life if we are that one, non-dual.
So we think we need to become this separate entity, this person. We try to become. That one essence that they're talking about. By doing all the practices, antras, anyway all these other things we do. If we do these practices we will become. It'll change our outlook. But becoming is not being. And trying to become something, it will never happen. Because becoming implies a future time. But you've been around for a while now. Have you ever become anything other than what you are? You haven't. Those of you who recognise or understand what I'm talking about haven't become that. You've just recognised through your investigation and living that you always were, and can only and ever be that.
Because that is all there is. That's what needs to be looked at. Am I this person? And to realise what is a person? Where's that word come from? And to realise it comes from persona, the Latin, persona, the mask. And what's a mask? A conceptual image. We have ourselves. So the belief in the person, what I believe I am, this personal self, is a mask, a concept. And they call it non-conceptual, ever fresh, self-shining, presence awareness. They describe that sat-chit-ananda as existence, consciousness, bliss, nama-rupa. They're the five factors. Well, have a look at that. Are you existing right now? Well, you can't say you're not, can you?
So you must be. Are you conscious? Well, you know you're not unconscious, or you wouldn't be able to say anything. Are you unaware? You know you're not unaware. So you're existence and you're conscious, and you're aware, and you're happy to be. You don't want to be dead right now, do you? So you're not the body, you're not the mind. You are that life essence that's fashioning, shaping, forming, expressing, expressing through and as that body, and the concepts and things that are in the body, which we call mind. But there's nothing substantial or solid that can say this is mind, even though you claim it as my mind.
And isn't there such a thing as mind, something solid and substantial, apart from thought? When you look at an investigation, you'll see that thinking is what we call mind. And as Shakespeare told you, 300 years ago, there's nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so. So if it's thinking that's making it good or bad, happy, sad, loving, hating, positive, negative, that's the way thoughts function. Wouldn't it be wise if you investigated the thinking and seeing if there is such a thing as a thinker? And we believe, without question, that I am the thinker. We'll investigate that. What's your next thought going to be?
Thinker. The thoughts are coming up in the thinking. And you don't know what your next thought's going to be. No personal or separate entity there that who is the thinker. There is thinking happening. But your next thought comes up, doesn't it? You can't tell me what it is, but it comes up. So thinking is happening. But we claim it, I am thinking the thought. I, that Johnny or Billy or Jane or whatever your name might be, claims it as I think. And the thought is what is being, coming up in the thinking. So the thinker, I think, has become the subject. Now, I become a thought, a subject.
And the thought, I'm thinking, becomes the object. Something opposite. So thinking is divided into subject, object. Duality. All these thoughts are going on. There's a belief that I am thinking these thoughts. But can the thought, I think, which is the thinker, can the thought, I think, actually think? Or is the thinking coming up as, and translating what is coming up as, I think? So the thought, I think, cannot think. So the subject, me, is an actual fiction. It's related to the thought. And what I'm being related to, the thought, which I believe to be me or I, can't think. Can't do anything at all. It's translated into that thought by the sense of presence, the absolute intelligence energy, the reasoning.
Translates the thought, I think, and I take it to believe that I am thinking. Just the same as the seeing is happening. The thinking is happening and it translates into the thought, I think. And I think this thought, which becomes the object, subject, object. We'll take the other things that are going on. The seeing. Everyone is seeing right now. As a matter of fact, just the same as thinking is happening to each and every one. And the thought comes up, I see. But can the thought, I see, like the thought, I think, can the thought actually see? Well, shut your eyes, look around the room, and see what you can see with the thought.
Because you can't see anything at all in the room with a thought. But the thought can be there, translating what was seen, or has been seen in the room, into things. But the thought, I see, cannot see. You're seeing through the eye. And have a look, is the eye saying, do you look at this, look at that? My physical eye can't say, I see. But it's the instrument which the seeing is happening. Just the same as the thought is the instrument which is translated. The thought, I hear. The thought, I hear, cannot hear. The sounds are translated through the hearing, in the ear, and translated by the thought.
And all these thoughts coming up, seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, smelling, thinking, feeling, are all done by the believed-in fictitious entity. But the entity, how's that functioning? Well, it's functioning all right. It's breathing, heart beating, hair and fingernails growing, food's being digested. Is that being done by a thought? Is it being done in an egoic image I have? Or is there something more substantial there, like life itself? Isn't it living? Isn't it being? Isn't it knowing? Isn't it aware-ing? It is that life energy that's fashioning through these patterns, shapes and forms, and doing the living, the being, the thinking, the tasting. The touching, the smelling, all the emotion things.
Pattern-y, shaping and forming. It's doing everything. Not the thought, or the body that it's expressing through, or the seeming mind, which is coming out of the thought. That's doing, that's just the instrument which is all expressing. But there is a knowing that you are. There is a feeling, an awareness of being. Awareness of being is bliss. Knowing that. It is blissful, it's good, it's happy, it's joyful. It's happiness. And it's all that life. Like Christ says, I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life. Not talking about himself, he's talking about that sense of presence. The sense of presence translates through the mind.
As the thought, I am. That's what I am-ness is, a sense of presence. And we're told to stay with the I am, that's the I am-ness. We think we've got to stay with the word, and repeat the word, and meditate on the word, and carry on with the word. But realise you are prior to the word. You are not the word. You are the life itself. You are more than the word. Greater than the word. The boundaries and limitations we put upon ourselves are the word. And they tell you that in the scriptures too. In the Bible it tells you, in the beginning, was the word.
And you didn't begin until you learnt the words. And nothing else has ever begun until the words have been learnt, that are expressing that. The word was with God, this label God we put on things. That's the word. God is the word. All things were made by him, by the word. And you look around the room and say, you've got a word or a label on everything. We've labelled everything with words. And there was nothing made that was made without the word. What are you without the word? Pause the thought. Hold the thought for a minute. What can you say without the word? Can you say it's good?
Can you say it's bad? Can you say it's happy or sad? Loving or hating? Hating, pleasant or painful? Without the word there's silence. There's stillness. There is an emptiness there. But it is a cognising emptiness. It's a fuse of that life essence, that innate intelligence energy, which they call a cognising emptiness. It has the capacity of cognising or knowing. And the Buddha made the statement that, called it a cognising emptiness, and made the statement that emptiness is form. And you realise that and recognise it, that emptiness is forming, patterning, shaping, all this manifestation. It's the one essence or one emptiness that's patterning and expressing as everything.
That's why they tell you it's one without a second, not two. And he turned around the other way, and the emptiness was form. And the forms, including you and me, and everything else in this manifestation, are all patterns, shapes and forms. The forms are nothing but the emptiness. And we've taken ourselves to be this reality, this separate entity, this individual. You are real as the emptiness. It's the emptiness that's patterning, shaping and forming, and expressing as everything. It is that emptiness which is no thing. It's not a thing. It's got no label or pattern, shape and form. But you should recognise and see that everything is the no thing.
And the no thing is everything. It's still the one essence that's patterning, shaping, forming and expressing as everything. So what's it all appear in? It's all appearing to each and every one of us. And each and every one of us cognise it in different ways, shapes and forms. We can agree on a lot of things, so we think we're seeing the same thing. But lots of other things we separate. So what's it all appearing in? Have a look. What's the first thing you see there? What's the closest thing to you? What's nearer to you, as they say in the scriptures, closer than breathing, nearer than hands and feet?
What is that? Well, isn't it the space? The emptiness? The first thing before my eyeballs is space. I don't know about you. And then all these other things appear. And then I think, I don't know, all these other things appear further out. So space, everything appears in. Space is empty. It is no thing. It's not a vacuum or a void, which they say, which is emptiness is a vacuum or a void. It's not. It is no thing, meaning it's got no pattern, no shape and form. No pattern, shapes and forms appear. Space is empty. But all things, nothing you can postulate or think of that could be outside of space.
Try them. Try and think of something that could be outside of space. If you're thinking of other planets or other shapes and forms, other worlds, not that there's any such thing, what would they be in? Wouldn't they have to be in space? Everything is the content of space. And space is no thing. So you and I are things. Realize we are no thing, but that which all the things are appearing in is the one essence, the one intelligence energy. It is the absolute and only thing that there is. Though it divides and expresses in seeming myriads of different pattern, shapes and forms, and that's how we see it.
It is still, only and ever and always will be the one. So we think we're going to become one. And we've tried. A lot of us have tried. We've meditated. We've prayed. We've done all sorts of practice. We've questioned and looked into it. Anyone found the answer? Those who have reckoned we've looked into it, yes. I found the answer. I'm not saying that I'm wrong. I'm not saying that I'm wrong. I'm just saying that I'm wrong. I'm not saying that I'm wrong. I am that no thing. I am that absolute. I am that one without a second. How could I be anything else? They're the ones that the scriptures have been written about, the texts, the things that I've realised and recognised.
And the recognition also is that it's always and never been so. I came into existence through life. The life, the same life that's expressing itself. It's written through this body. And the Sargadatta tells you that. He says there's only life. There is nobody or no thing that lives a life. It is life itself that lives on life. And out of life, more life comes. And realise that also. Where did you come from? You realise you came from the life of your parents, your mother and your father. Where do they come from? The life. The life of their parents. It's that life that's ever been ever renewing itself.
Ever renewing itself. Constantly. And you are that life. And we forget it and lose sight of it and take the idea of being a separate entity, a person. That sense of separation has put boundaries on us. It's isolated us. When the capacity of reasoning develops in us, in these patterns, after they form and come into existence, we don't come into existence with any words. And we don't pick up or learn any words until we're about two, two and a half. And our parents put words on us. And the capacity of reasoning starts. And that reasoning we see other than one. And take ourselves with the labour we put on to be separate from the life.
And with that sense of separation comes insecurity. If you're separate, you're not sure of what something else is. And you're very vulnerable. It might hurt you. You don't know. We're young. We don't know anything about it. And this could be the bogeyman. This could be anything at all. It could hurt us. So the sense of insecurity and vulnerability comes upon us. And from then on, we're going to be able to learn. And that's reinforced by the concepts, by the words we learn. And we add all these concepts and words onto ourselves, not realising that it's the one essence, the great perfection, the absolute. And they tell you, the Buddhists tell you in the scriptures, they call it the great perfection.
The perfection you can't add anything to. You can't take anything away. It wouldn't be perfect. But you are the great perfection. And they tell you in one sentence, it's non-conceptual awareness. Awareness without any concepts. What is wrong with right now if you don't think about it? And realise you think in concepts. Thoughts, ideas, images. Right now without a thought, without a concept, can you say it's good? Can you say it's bad? Is there such a thing as fear? Depression, guilt, shame or annoyance without a thought? Sensations can come up. But what are they if we haven't learnt any words? We haven't got any labels to put on it.
Just thoughts, feelings and emotions come and go and change. Transient, like everything else in this manifestation is constantly transient. There is nothing static in it whatsoever. It's constantly changing. Be aware of that transient, that change. You haven't got the same body you walked into this room with. It's changing right now in this moment. It's changing timelessly, spontaneously, and effortlessly. To go into the concept of time, you've got to bring thoughts, concepts, ideas and images into it. There are thousands of souls in this body dying right now and being replaced. That's how the life is expressing. They coloured you. That is in the scriptures too, those that have seen it.
It is a phenomenal manifestation. The definition of phenomena is that which appears to be. An appearance is seemingly so. Have a dream. All sorts of things can appear in your dream. When you wake up, where do they go? In the waking state. All sorts of appearances and concepts going on. It's like I told you, you're dreaming a dream you call the world. Stop looking for ways out. We try to do. We don't like the dream, the way it's going on. We want to get out of it. Free of the dream, the concept. When you realise you're dreaming a dream and not looking for ways out, the dream's not your concern, you love one part of it and not the other, love all of it or none of it, just see it as it is.
See it as it is without taking any preference, partiality or comparison. Just as is. You'll get a certain, a different take on things. Different take altogether. And then like Nisargadatta says, you'll see that nothing can trouble you except in your own imagination. All these concepts and that, see them for what they are, they can't trouble you. Unless they're fixated on, believed on, she did this to me and she so and so. And you fixate on it and carry it around for weeks, days, months or years. Instead of letting as it is, letting the fresh and new, the constant change come up, leave everything as it is.
Don't fixate on it. I say don't fixate on it. There's no you that can or can't, but the fixation is there if you notice what's going on. The attachment, how we attach to all of it. All these concepts and ideas. Recognising that and detaching, let it go. Don't fixate or attach to anything. I say don't. And it's not just you can or you can't, but if your own understanding, your own recognition, you realise what is necessary to be done and will happen of itself. That's the buffer idea of what we point to. And there's some here who recognise it. There's some listening in who recognise it.
Some of you have looked into it for a little bit and got a bit of a taste of it and get stuck on certain things, might have questions. And others, those of you who know a bit, let it out because you might express it a bit different to what it's expressed here in a way that somebody can understand it. Some of you might have doubts and arguments, but anyway, get into it. It's up to you. There's people listening in, so Kat will get some questions from them. So welcome our online community. We have 30 people with us and this is where it all starts. Some good morning messages and hello everyone and blessings to one and all.
And then we have a question from Tanya. Do you think some people can't fully recognise their true nature and be free from all patterns because there are strong psychological patterns that seem too hard to see through? That's the belief. There are strong psychological patterns. The psychological patterns will keep coming up. But see, ask yourself, what power has this one got? Question, look into it. Step into it, test it out. If it's a conceptual pattern, it's got no power whatsoever. I've had knots in the guts and things like that and was fearful of them and so I couldn't look at them. They were so strong. But when I recognised they needed to be investigated, looked into it, looked into it, tested them out, and the hardest thing I ever did, they dissolved.
As Bankey said, everything is perfectly resolved in the unborn mind, if left as it is. And looked into it, putting all my attention into it and fixation on it, and there was no energy going into it then. All the energy was in the looking at it, trying to get to the strength of it. All that energy going in, there was no energy in it, and it dissolved with its soul. Finished up laughing at it. Now, every time it had come up from then on, it had another one, another look, and see it was. But then you realise, when you're looking at it, into it, if you've got a bruise on your arm somewhere or a broken bone on your body anywhere, you can pinpoint that and put the finger on it and look into it and feel it, make it worse.
But when the psychological stuff has come on, try and pinpoint it with a finger or a bone or anything else or even the thought or your mind. You can't because it's all mind. Because it's all mind stuff. It's all thought, concept. Once you're free of that, you are free. It's pretty hard for a lot of people to do it. A lot of people won't. I've had people, and early day I've had people sitting there asking them to look at it, to see for themselves. They couldn't do it. And wouldn't do it. Too much. So those will stay in it. But there were others that didn't see through it.
And it's there for everyone. Up to each one. Everyone can do it. Nobody's going to do it for you. That's the thing. Your concepts, your ideas, that are forming the pattern, not anybody else's. It's up to you to see for yourself. Is there a person there with any substance or any independent nature? Yes, so I saw that comment and quickly answered myself that freedom from patterns doesn't mean patterns are absent. Recognition is regardless. It is unconditional. So, and because the question was very broad, there are different patterns, we are all just a conglomeration of different patterns. Behavior patterns, breathing patterns, blood pressure, they're all patterns.
So we don't really want those patterns to go. And who is there who actually wished them away? That's the question. Because if the thought is arising like the, like the wave in the ocean or the cloud in the sky, who cares? Really the freedom is regardless. If the thought is there but there's no fixation or belief going to it, it will not form that knot in the throat or lump in the gut. Yes, it's the energy and the belief that goes in it. And it's beautiful you answer how, you know, like you don't fixate on it. It doesn't get any energy and it just dissipates.
Anyway, there was other answers? Another thing looking at it, don't fixate. Attachment, a lot of people can't understand detachment. But fixation is attachment. If you don't fix anything, you're not attached to it. That's the way out of your detachment. Fixation. Yes, so Tanya says, ah, so it is an unrealistic expectation that the pattern won't show up anymore. I see there are stories, but anxious sensations still arise that makes the stories seem real. So says thought anyway. Makes the stories feel real. If you know it makes the story feel real, what are you going to do? Are you going to make the story? You're going to drop the story, aren't you?
Tom said, and he quoted Nisargadatta, the only thing you can change is your attitude. That's from Nisargadatta. Yeah, and that's really what happens when you kind of withdraw the energy of belief. You withdraw the energy of belief from it. So your attitude changes instead of being invested and taking it as a gospel. You just see the thought for what it is, a thought. Have an attitude of gratitude instead of an attitude of fear and indepression. Yeah. And Vivek says, ah, when you are formless, there is no thinking and no thoughts. There is no knowledge, no words. That was a quote from Ramakant. Ramakant Maharaj. And Ram says, answering to Tanya, as Bob once said to me, when I once asked him in exasperation, why does it keep coming up?
He replied with slight indignation, why shouldn't it? Haha. Does the sea still appear to be blue? It is ever not blue, but you know what it actually is. Boom. Yeah, whatever appears is the appearance. Tanya answered to Ram. Thank you, Ram. It is true. It shows up just because it does. So the thought will still appear, but it can't be seen. But it can be seen. It's just a thought and not reality. Just struggling to see certain thoughts as fiction. They seem true. And I quickly answered it's relatively true. Right? Not absolutely. Ultimate truth is that which never changes. Relative is transient. Like one could say now is, what time is 11.20?
For another 30 seconds and then it's not. So it is true, it's not really. And we have a question, a request for you from Bill. Says, I'm curious speaking and sharing as always, Bob. Hello, Kat. Question for Bob. Can you speak about love? They say love is God. If God is love, love must be God. What is it? Yeah. Yeah. Love must be God if God is love. So that's all your godliness is if you're looking for that. And there's anyone who doesn't love to be, the love of being. And that's the way they express that you don't need. Existence, consciousness, bliss. Or being, knowing and loving to be.
Now don't you love to be? You don't want to be dead. So that love is there naturally. But if we don't recognize it, don't acknowledge it, what's it going to be? There's going to be fear, anger, depression, and all these other things. The love of being. And as Nisargadatta says, when you recognize love, and you are that living love, he says people will come to your door. They'll recognize what's expressing. And that's what happens in each one of us, is a recognition or a resonating with what's heard. And if it's the truth, it's resonated with. That's love recognizing or resonating with itself. And it'll take a little bit further if it's seemingly been obscured by concepts, thoughts, feelings.
It opens it up. Life is love. Love is life. I have another question. Tanya answering about the relativity of the truth. Yes, relatively true. Not absolutely. But it seems to stop me from relaxing and enjoying life. And Vivek says, me is not real, so relaxing, non-relaxing. So is relaxing, non-relaxing. And Tanya says, how do you not fixate belief or attach to stories about having to do more than 10,000 steps a day or burning so many calories through exercise? A bit embarrassed to bring it up here, but want to ask about it. How many thousand steps are you doing, Bob? I'm lucky if I make 10.
Thousand? No. And you're alive. You're fine. You're happy. You're relaxed. You're fulfilled. Even though you didn't do 10,000 steps in the last probably, maybe collectively in a year. One time it would be a great disappointment if I couldn't go right out. Now I see things, well, it's happening that way, that's the way it's going to be. I haven't got long to go anyway, so. You never know. No concern about whether it's going, hangs around or goes, what difference is it going to make? Where before there might have been a bit of fear of going to the other place. Yes, Tania says she can't relax because of that reoccurring and noisy thoughts and she can't relax and enjoy life.
And if you think of, let's say, construction noises, someone pulled down the house next door and for a year you have the hammerheads and everything going on, construction noises. It is also hard to relax in that external noises or traffic noises or people who live next to train station or next to the airport. But ask them, is it impossible? No, it's possible. So if you believe it is hard, you will prove it to yourself that it is hard. But if you really understand, but if you really open and see moment to moment, you will see how often you are relaxed even though there is noise, internal or external.
See what is already present. It is not about achieving a further state in which something is different than it is right now. It is about finding the freedom in right now, regardless of the circumstances, whether there is noise or no noise, or obsessive thinking or no obsessive thinking. That's the freedom. And that's it for the online commentary. I've got a question. I'll... Simon was going to... Thank you, Jane. Go for it. Excellent. Thanks a lot. Yes, Jane. I just wanted to say something more about patterns. I think, Tanya, that the more you see self-reliance fails you and take it right through to the end, you realise that there isn't a self, but it is a process.
It is a process of looking, of looking whenever you get that knot in the gut or whenever you have a fixed idea about anything at all that creates dis-ease or feelings of being ill at ease with yourself. Again, it's always pointing back to a self. And the more you do it, the less you see the self, the more you see the self is not real. And it is a process of having the courage to look, you know, because old habits die hard. And the biggest habit is an illusory me that is running things. And that illusory me is a phantom, as Bob says. It's a fiction.
It isn't real. So the process is every time that comes up and you go, oh, there it is, you're cognising emptiness. Or there is a cognising of emptiness or there is a cognising of a power greater than that pattern which breathes you at night. And the focus comes back. It keeps coming back, back, back, if you like, just to use words. To that presence which has never left. So you're coming home. Every time you see a pattern, you're coming home to that place you never left that's always breathed you at night. Someone also writes that coming back to the origin of the pattern because quite often there is some energy moving in the body and then the thought tries to justify, label the energy and blame something on that energy.
So if there is a movement bubbling like somewhere there and there is a sense of discomfort in the body, you may blame it, oh, I had too big of a breakfast. Or you may blame it, oh, I didn't walk 10,000 steps. Or, oh, I didn't pray today. Oh, this is, you know, this is what often happens. The impulse or the emotion comes first and then the narrative justifies that, that emotion and bring a story to the emotion. If you step out of the narrative, oh, this is because of my breakfast, or this is because of my progesterone, or this is because of my husband, or my 10,000 steps, or whatever the story says, you come out of that narrative and bring it back to that raw sensation, to the present sensation.
So the story is something that is in time, that is learned, that is secondhand, that is basically just repetition of somebody else's, you know, how many people can think that thought. It's not really, it's not the source energy. You can come back to that raw vibration. If you can, you can push aside the label because the label will come up with it. It will say, oh, I have upset stomach, or I have tense, or relax, you said you can't relax. So any of the label that comes describing the present sensation, just put it aside gently and look at the sensation itself. See what happens with the breathing.
See what happened with the contractions. See what happens in the present moment, in the seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, smelling, in the feeling. This is the present reality. This is what is really happening, rather than going with the thought, which takes the attention away from that present happening. And kind of trades the reality for the story about the reality. So this is really about coming back to what's happening presently, to this moment now. And if that will become a new habit pattern, that is actually a helpful habit pattern to disengage with the description, disengage with the interpretation of that pattern, of that energy. That may just be a nice little thing to remember.
So Bob, if I practice, if I categorize living things as they are, as a practice, the more I'm doing this practice, the more devotion and commitment and wanting this get deeper. The mind trying to get the answer in the mind is. Seeing beyond the mind, just recognize that the silence is the stillness behind all of it all. If you conceptualize it, you've got some concept or idea going, start the story. The story has a beginning and an ending. It'll go on and go on and go on. But bring it back. It's not a matter of bringing it back, but see what's wrong right now if you don't think about it.
Couldn't understand anything. So how can I want this more? How can I prioritize this as first as it is? It is the first priority, but not for me. There is a me that has got other priorities. So when I leave this place, I go do something else until next Sunday. And to see there's something innately there that's looking for something, but you're looking in the wrong direction if you're looking in the mind. Because when I, you're looking at this sort of stuff, you want it because it wouldn't be coming here. You're wanting it, but going the wrong way about it. Trying to find the answer in the mind.
When they clearly tell you the answer's not in the mind. What's wrong with right now if you don't think about it? You're clearly telling this to me, and I understand, yet I keep doing what I shouldn't. That's something. Well, if that's what's coming up still, see what happens from there. It might turn around all of a sudden. And if I'm doing it, in that doing what you're doing, it might give you some clear light or some recognition or understanding. It'll be a, ah, I see through it. I have another comment from Tanya. She says, thank you Bob and Kat. Heart, yes, there are many moments of relaxation.
It is true. Thank you for pointing out that the non-fulfillment of beliefs and you are absolutely okay. And thank you Jane. So just look and see if there is a me-self. And thank you Kat. Staying with the sensation and what experiencing is happening right now is very helpful pointer. I notice there is no evidence of the belief is current experiencing. And how you said, I think the difficulty lies in the seeing without evaluating, judging, et cetera. Just see, just listen. If the patterns, emotions appear, it is not like, oh, there it is. Because it's the I, ego that's seeing it. But listen, see it. Yeah, Bob sometimes reminds to listen with your heart rather than with your evaluating component.
And the mind is just like, oh, I'm just comparing, judging, interpreting mind. Oh, I heard it before. Oh, I know it. Oh, I know what it means. And the projection starts and never stops. It's really about just being an empty space. Hi, I had an instance this week as a mother. And most people know as a mother, you know, you go into that identity. And my son's not well. Can you speak up? My son's not well. Up in the Ganges. I mean, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. But he was in the Gold Coast. And I, he's in hospital. And I can't do anything about it.
And part of me felt like, at one stage I thought, oh, I've failed as a mother. The more I let go of the story. I'd never failed as a mother. But I've just held more and more love. I let go of the identity as the mother that I failed. In actual fact, I hadn't done anything. And at that moment, in the next few weeks, I'll go up and see him. He won't be in hospital. And I'll be able to spend more quality time. So let's go to the whole story. My life had a beautiful day and I let go of everything. And it's, yeah, so once you let go of an identity, whether it's a mother or anything, you've come back to home.
Yeah, thanks. Good. Beautiful. Oh, sorry. I think it's totally possible and it's happening, in fact, to live in awareness, just to live entirely as that is aware. Yeah, so then everything comes to you, everything is without consideration of you being a victim at all of this thing that's occurring. It occurs just as it is. When you place your emphasis on taking everything to that moment of awareness, if you're going to do that, if it arises in you to do that, it will, but I'm giving you the idea now, right? I'm letting you experience this idea in your mind that you can live in, in awareness totally.
It's an amazingly different thing to do where you just allow it to happen, allow everything to show up as if it was, you were the pregenitor of it. You know, this is an incredible thing. This is what it's all about. Rather than trying to continually look at the problems and in order that you might come to that realization, just go there instantaneously already. Why not? That's the invitation, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Go home now. So we have, Jay says practice makes perfect and Megan says anything can point to this, but there is no thing to get. Bill says that was beautiful to hear you speaking about what love is.
Thank you, Bob. One of my favorite quotes from Nisargadatta mirrors what you've said. What is love? It is not a state of being rather than a state of mind. Love is will, the will to share your happiness with all. Being happy, making happy. This is the rhythm of love. From I Am That, page 246. And I know, Bill, you ask Bob, but I'm going to give you my favorite quote of Nisargadatta on love as well. And this is answer to the question, does love act deliberately? And he says yes and no. Life is love and love is life. What keeps the body together but love?
What is desire but love of the self? What is fear but the urge to protect? And what is knowledge but the love of truth? See how he, everything, every movement, every movement, every action is love. He says the means and forms may be wrong, but the motive behind is always love. Love of the me and the mind. The me and the mind may be small, or may explode and embrace the universe, but love remains. Beautiful. Love it. Thank you, Nisargadatta. And thank you, Bob. Yes, nothing more, please. Thank you. Thank you for being so then speaking about love, because that is actually the origin. There's another quote of Nisargadatta pointing out that love is life and love is origin.
When he says, what was this one? When I'm nothing, this is wisdom. Being nothing, recognizing nothingness, the empty space, is the wisdom or understanding. When I'm everything, this is love. Everything really is love. When I see every movement in the appearance, that is the loving to be. That is love in action. Even something which from a relative perspective feels like hurt. For example, touching my face kills millions or billions of microbes. That's the genocide of the entire species. From a relative perspective, that feels like love. But in more general sense, without going to the dualistic good, bad, pleasant, painful, which is always relative. In a more generalized view, Nisargadatta points that every way the life expresses itself, moves itself, appears, dance, all the dualistic appearance, because appearance has to be dualistic.
There is no, non-duality can't appear because it doesn't have anything to appear against. So it is all just a movement of love. Life is love. It is love. Even if it feels unpleasant for a particular body or particular group. It is still love behind it, loving to be. And Bill says, that's a beautiful cat and so true. Which Bill is that, Bill Tate? I don't want to give names in case they... But no, it's a different Bill. I'll say that. In case someone wants to remain and take over. I'll say that Bill is anonymous. Yeah, anyone? Any thoughts on love's patterns? I like that piece was just said that it's really the awareness or the oneness itself is generating all the thoughts, feelings and ideas and that's coming out of that space.
There's no identity to claim it as, you know, this is, I'm coming up with this stuff. So it comes out of that space and it's the claiming of it, which is the problem. But I like the fact that, you know, if you would take away thoughts, you know, the experiencing is already there. The experiencing is already here without the thoughts. So it's when the, you know, it's like, like we think the thoughts are having an experience, but the thought can't experience the experiencing is already there. There's an assumption that the thought is experiencing. But it's prior to that. So, yeah, I mean, it's so subtle.
It's just missed, isn't it? Like the presence and the awareness is there. It's just so subtle. The mind overlooks it like it's already too late. It's looking for something that's already there. It's, but yeah, I'm realizing the mind trying to go, like too much energy in the mind trying to work something out. It's already in the rock going down the wrong track, isn't it? Like the energy is in the mind trying to come up with something. It's taking it. It's almost like withdrawing away from that completely. That, that whole energy of mind looking. It's taking the attention away from that because that's, that's the problem.
The answers are never there. It's tricky though. It is a tricky mother. But I like the patterns, the selfing patterns that coming up and seeing those appearing. And, yeah, coming like any fixed point. I'm realizing any fixed point at all is, is a red flag. Like any point in time, a point like any position at all is a, is a, oh, hang on. That's some, that's not right. Yeah. Anyway. Well said, Adrian. Beautiful. You go, Dee. Come on. . I don't have anything to say, I think. Um, hmm. What, what, what are we talking about again? I don't know. What's the top, like? Adrian was just highlighting how even origin of thought is that same one essence or that awareness.
It is, yeah. And that is claiming happening. Yeah. And it's like energy, like we've got, like you say, everything you're saying. And you put all this energy into it. And, um, It's all about feeling. Yeah. In, in, in the mind trying to figure it out. But then, then you just know it doesn't work. So you just, it automatically just dies. Like, why would you put attention into something that's useless. . And totally futile. And never provides anything of substance or anything that's, um, so then you stop. . Somehow you stop. Hmm. Or it just stops, or some mechanism or some grain, grand design comes in and goes, whoop, not playing this game anymore.
. And, um. . This new game takes over. . new games really pretty cool it's um but in in the process there's all this funny business that goes along on the way and you think you're developing some sort of superpowers and skills and and extra sort of ordinary stuff and then that's really a lot of rubbish too that's just it's just actually a little more tricks to get you engaged back in the mind and then it doesn't work and then there's like other sort of peace that comes because that game stops as well and all games really stop and then the greatest game in town is just clear and obvious and and that's everything that you're talking about before with the love like every pointer that bob said today like it's as always said like the thought i see cannot see like the thought i hear cannot hear like um we'll start from the fact that you're already that like every single point that just points you back directly to the exact essence and in that essence you just realize that it's one there's one thing going on and if there's one thing going on and there's observing one thing how can you not love it like you like that love it just infuses everything because that's the only thing there is um and that's why like all nisargadatta's comments and it's like it's really simple like this a lot the question of love like it's not complex issue of i love you and you love me and you're good and i now don't love you now i hate you now i'm going to kill you now i'm going to marry you now i'm going to divorce you this is all rubbish this is not not what we're talking about at all not what bob's pointing to in any way and um oh anyway what the hell was i just saying guys take this thing away that's great we have uh hey you says you are already loved free it is the protagonist it's it's the protagonist is imagined and bill says another love quote from nisargadatta that always blows me away into absolute simplicity of all of this is love says i'm everything wisdom says i'm nothing between the two my life flows yeah this this was the one i was referring to is three translations of that particular code it is a beautiful beautiful quote that seems like there is a duality of love and wisdom or everything and nothing or form and emptiness or it seems like it because it appears this way it cannot appear in any other way but they are one in essence you're going to say something well it is only the one this is between the two we are not fixated in one end with the other between love and everything and the nothing can convey a spiritual thing to you i do not thereby express examine although it cannot be in nothing is Rotterdam well no no i i don't think anything wants to be to you because one can never become that but you cannot be I can't go but i don't know they's i can't tell you from the words of khanda like oh yes i don't alleup if i're like that where are you just as it is old and modified and correct it's a little easy actually it's totally easy you know everybody here knows what we're talking about everybody here it will always will already agree isn't that true if things really all the questions we're posing are just bullshit because in the end run where we already know inherently what we're about is there one person here that doesn't know what we're talking about here today not really god in the form of a little thing to play with with my hands so i don't bend the wire though thank you yeah it makes two of you make sure so yeah just to put it very uh crudely we're talking about two things and two things actually cancel out to one thing so we're we can look back and we can look forward if we look back we see empty nothingness spaciousness if we look forward we see the world see everything so one way there's nothing and the other way is everything beautiful pretty pretty simple that's brilliant yeah except not not finding fault but like i can't see back and forward like like to me to me no like to me that there's there's there's an emptiness and and within that emptiness is everythingness and there and there's no back or forward see where you're looking from that kind of look beyond your eyes focus your attention to the origin of seeing what's there nothing yes nothing yes yes and you look ahead of you and you see forms oh that's what the ross is saying yeah looking back is nothing and looking forward is everything forms you can see it in many different ways yeah yeah yeah true yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah but it is yeah it is a fun fun fun little exercise to see what's looking see where the looking originates is there anything there and it's an abyss you could yeah the headless way you could do that thing i have another comment from uh from primaris who says she says today recognition happened about love to be thank you and hey you says we are always in search of con you and hey you says we are always in search of con firmation and reassurance it is the very thing firmation and reassurance it is the very thing that want to be free from this idea of being a person maha mudra yeah that's the freedom from idea one idea all ideas freedom from idea the ideas can appear and disappear on that freedom but obviously identifying following idea investing in idea suddenly the attention is engaged and there is no experience of freedom freedom still there space still there but it's kind of overlooked you get blinded with idea you get blinded with with fanaticism you know now i am vegan or now i am fascist whatever and i'm right and you're wrong i have to be this way yeah within every idea is the problem with the idea is there's an embedded like assumption of a me or an eye or or am i um yeah within it like because an idea is all right but as long as but an idea for a me that's brought with all sorts of danger yeah yeah it's painful very weird idea taken on board by an eye in the day oh dear oh oh dear oh dear i don't really have anything to say but thank you for that an idea but i shouldn't have an idea can you say on any thoughts around like seeing thoughts in general versus seeing that really deep closer even though there's not i thought you know that one that sits a lot closer I think there's not a distinction, they're all thoughts, but it feels like that eye one sits much closer.
So I don't know what your experience with that was. Yeah. Would you comment on the thoughts, eye thought versus, you know, sea is blue? You know, that is less kind of striking or less engaging. And then when the eye thought comes, it is much more engaging. It's time to be the person, isn't it? Yeah. This is a personal thought, my idea. So that's the claiming, the naming and claiming again, isn't it really? Naming it as a me and then... Give her a mark. So that alleged stronger thought is the deepest seeded pattern. And the me, you know, has a response to itself. So it's like a dog chasing its tail, really, you know.
You know what I mean? So I don't know, you know what I mean? It's like a dog chasing its tail because, you know, you can never get anywhere if you're relating to a me that's got a fixed idea about something. Because the other part of the mind... Yeah. Is trying to figure it out. And then it starts saying that particular thought is stronger and that particular thought is harder to get rid of and blah, blah, blah. And it's, you know, and it's just the most deep seeded pattern. It's all a relationship and all conflict arises in a relationship. So that happens when your mind's going here, there and everywhere.
And it perpetuates. Perpetuates itself. Discriminate. Yeah. And also it is the feeling. I mean, for me, when I say I, I go to the kitchen. It means nothing. It feels nothing. It's absolutely nothing. It's a conventional practical statement. And when I say I go to the kitchen, obviously I mean the body. And that is just a conventional statement. But I remember making I statements some 10 years ago. And they were really heavily. Loaded with anxiety, unworthiness, sense of deficiency, sense of not being enough, sense of needing someone's acceptance, approval, permission to be. Exactly. And that emotional load coming from the assumption that I'm not enough, that I am less than the totality.
That was what made that I felt heavy. And sometimes I had to defend the idea. Somebody else's ideas about whatever drinking juices or whatever the idea was, because it felt like my self words depending depended on me being right and being able to prove that this idea that was associated with that sense of deficiency was my idea. Like you said, the claiming. But it was all about the really overwhelming sense of. Deficiency. Unworthiness. Sense of not being enough sense of being less than the absolute. And even if the feeling wasn't really overwhelming because I wasn't depressed all my life, I wasn't suicidal. I was functional.
It was perfectly fine. I was respected in my society. And but there was still there behind somewhere in the heart, in the gut, somewhere there that fear that it will be uncovered. That someone will see through that. No, I'm really not that smart, confident, whatever. Now, that was a fear there that I'll be rejected. And this one was the heaviness of the thought today. The last few years I've experienced probably 50 times more rejection than to my entire life. And it costed me absolutely nothing. And that's what brought you here to vote. No, no. With both. I mean, originally. I mean, originally. Yes, originally. All those feelings that you had, you know, was love, as you said before.
Yeah. And brought you to the place you never left and dissipated those patterns. Yeah. You know, and everyone has their own journey to seeing that, you know. And so, so beautifully said, Kat. Thank you. Yeah. Thank you. Yes, that's actually that fear existential. Yeah. That's what made me a seeker. And. Shakespeare also said the same thing in the guise of Richard II. He's locked up in a, isolated in a tower. So he's living in separation. And he said, with nothing can I be pleased. Please. Till I be eased with being nothing. So when you realize you are nothing, no thing. What is there to judge or belittle or condemn or whatever?
Absolutely. The I, the I is the name I give consciousness, isn't it? Isn't the I, the I is the name I give awareness, my awareness. So this is another way of looking. Yeah. You can look at it. It's that the, if one is focused on being the I of a, you know, a problem, and there's a reference point at the center of the problem, then that's the I you'll be. But if you are the I, if you are seeing things through just the perspective, if you like, of awareness itself, then that is who you are. That is the I that you are now are. That I has become transcended into the universe.
That is the personal I. So let's not get that confused. I think that's important to see that distinction. Yeah, that's right. That's why I always call it the me if I'm caught up. Yeah. Because, you know, the I and the me can be confused. Yeah. Okay. I have a couple of things from people who are with us and that we are going to wrap up. Bill says, Pure consciousness and pure love are the same. Different aspects of qualities of the spirit. The same single absolute we are. Something about the love aspect, the ananda aspect, the pure feeling of our being that is so beautiful and to be and to share.
The one timeless, indivisible, omnipresence we are that includes everything within it. That's beautiful. He said. And Tanya says, So relaxed. Now and much peace. Noticing sensations and experiencing. We'll look and see if there is anybody experiencing, looking or aware. Thank you so much for this meeting. This meetings. This meetings always reveal the peace of being lots of love to all. And JB says, Everyone putting an exclamation point onto seeing the relationship of me claiming a concept. And just a concept. Minus any beautiful and Zuma says love. And I'll just add this to Tanya. If you want to by all means, Bob always encourages the investigation.
See if there is anyone who does experiencing, but be aware also that that's another way sometimes to leave the current experiencing. So if there is an experience of anxiety or. Without the label experience of bubbling life. And instead of being with the bubbles, you start looking. Oh, is there something there? Blah, blah, blah, blah. That may also be exchanging the current happening for the thought. It's good to have a look and then come back. Have a look. No one there. Okay, come back to the present sensation because just engaging with the thought of looking rather than being present. I sometimes defeat the purpose. I've seen it, but I'm sure you proficient in that by now.
So thank you. And we have thank you messages from everyone. So Tanya says good point. Couple cut will keep it in mind. And thank you for cutting Jane from Megan and Keith and Zuma and JB and everyone. So thank you. I just wanted to say one more thing. Or what you said made me, made me just think of that. Another Shakespeare quote to be or not to be. That is the question. And that is also the problem. Because when you, when you're in that beingness, there's no problem when you're in, in the, you know, fixated on a thought in the mind that becomes a problem.
But yeah, anyway, just that was just what came up. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
