We all know what it's all about, all hands at the game, looking into this for a while. Basically we try and keep it as simple as possible. It's that simple that we miss it. Basically, as they say, it's being, knowing and loving to be. Or existence, consciousness, bliss. That's what they describe it. And the other two patterns, or two concepts, whatever they put them on. Two factors. Two factors are nama rupa. Nama meaning name and rupa meaning form. That's another way of describing body-mind, isn't it? Mind is what you're naming things, a lovely thing. And the body is what it's expressing through. It's all suffused with that existence.
The awareness or consciousness. And the love of being. If that love of being or the joy of being wasn't there, you wouldn't want to take that breath you just took. You wouldn't want to expand your heart. But you're doing that spontaneously and naturally. And body. Are you this body? When you look it down. What's the body made up of? When you investigate these things, you'll realise what they say is true, that the false cannot stand up to investigation. If it is something that's not true or false, when you look into it, you'll see it as so. How it is, it's false. Are you this body?
And innately, you already know you're not the body. Because you say, my body. If you were the body, wouldn't you say, I body? If you weren't, you'd say, my body. Just to say, my house. My car. My coat. My hat. This implies there is something that's claiming all those things. And the same with my mind. So you've got this, what we're expressing through, the life energy that you are is expressing through is this body-mind. And what is mind? So much goes on about the mind. But can anyone really show me a thing called mind? Or is there anything substantial there at all that you can say is mind?
You can say, my heart, my brain, my hand, they're all seemingly substantial. What about this thing called mind, though? If there's such a thing as mind, what shape has it got? What form has it got? And all our problems are based on this thing we call mind. And when you look at it and investigate it, you'll see there's no such thing as mind apart from thought. And if you were this thing you call mind, then there's no such thing you must be. There's no such thing there as what you call mind without the thinking. So mind is basically thinking. And people like Shakespeare and others have told you years and years ago, there's nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.
It is the thinking. And the Sagrada Teller says there's nothing can trouble you except in your own imagination. Which is, what's all this? Imagining. Imaging in. Imagine in. Making conceptual, mental constructs. Taking the forms that are basically repairing the pattern shapes and forms you're repairing and expressing, taking it to be real, and putting labels on it. Putting words. What's the word? How many words were you born with? And you realise you weren't born with any words. Now how can you say you were born? Because you don't remember your birth. But there's a basic knowing, a basic knowing, that existence came about somewhere some seeming time ago, when that capacity of reasoning developed.
Your first parents fussing around you learnt words. And every word you've ever spoken, or ever likely to speak, has been learnt. If you haven't learnt it or picked it up, how could you say any words? And have a look at these words. What are they? Is a word real? Is a word, have a look at the word water. Can you drink a word? Can you swim in a word? Can you drown in a word? You can't. The word fire, burn your mouth if you speak it. Can you cook with it? Can you heat yourself with it? What's this word I or me then? Is it this body?
Is it this mind? Is it those called words? A lot of people refer to it as my brain. Is it your brain? Is it your heart? Are those words actually what those things are? Is it the pattern, shape and form, the nama rupa, being translated, the life essence itself, that formed those patterns, bodies and the mind, with the thing called mind in it, which is no such thing, thoughts, which we express through. That's how we express in words, thoughts, ideas and images. And that's enabled this pattern to continue through the breathing, the heart beating, the food we eat and everything like that. So the body is nothing solid and substantial either, we can say it's real.
It can be all broken down into subatomic particles, into whatever they divide, be even simpler than that. The body is nothing but this life energy, that's pattern shaped and formed, and utilising it as something to express through. And how it's expressing as words, pattern shapes and forms again, in the subtler level than what the body is. And it all can be broken down, as I say, into pure intelligence energy. I use the word intelligence, and I'm not using the word intellect, it's intelligence, not the intellect. The intellect is something we work out with the mind, it can utilise with intelligence, as a tool. It's the same intelligence that's functioning in this universe, that's rolling the earth around the sun, it's calling the seasons to come and go, forming, imploding planets and forming them and dissolving them, causing tsunamis, ice ages and everything to come down.
Even though all these patterns might be not like some of them, some of them fearful, some of them horrendous, but that's the label we put on them, that discriminates them. But there's still that same life that's patterning, shaping, forming and everything. What's it being formed in or out of, whatever you like to call it? What's the basic screen? Isn't the basic screen this space, this emptiness, which they call the cognising emptiness? Isn't that the basic screen? And the silence that's prior to the sound, the stillness, the silence and the movements, the screen which everything is appearing, the space is no thing. Can you find a static point, isn't it, a centre to it, a comfort to it?
Has it got any dimension at all? See, space hasn't got any dimension to it at all. Yet, patterns, shapes and forms appear in it, all things, and that's what you and I are, we are things. Everything in this manifestation, as I say everything, and you know that's what I'm saying, is that we are things. And you know what I'm talking about, it means every plant, shape, form, earth, continents, whatever, flowers, bacteria, they're all things. And you and I are things. Can something come from that empty space, that no thing? When we say no thing, we think it's all zero, zilch, a vacuum and a void.
But no thing, meaning that the pattern, shapes and forms that appear and are expressed are nothing other than the basic essence itself, the basic screen, the emptiness. If I postulate, I think something could be outside of space, what would it be in? Whatever you could postulate or think, it would have to be in something, and that's basically the thing it is, we appear as a so-called thing, would be space, the emptiness. Can't go beyond that. And all these pattern, shapes and forms are here, and all vibrating, and all the pattern, shapes and forms, the wondrous ways in which they all express and appear, implies that everything is suffused with that innate intelligence.
It's innately there. All that happens is seeming somewhat of a movement happens in that space and forms little vibrations which become seemingly solid patterns. But without that life essence, how many thoughts can you or I or any of these so-called persons in this room have that we've taken to be we are this person? Person is a word or a label we put upon ourselves from an ancient language, persona, the mask. They knew innately then when they pointed out it's a mask, not the mask of cloth or... or... or mental or whatever we like to put ourselves, but a mask of concepts, a mask of words, ideas and images that we've put upon ourselves.
Have a look at it. I'm Bob, the Australians, the good fella. That's the way... how do I know what's Australia? It's nothing but a word or a label. Appearing where? In space. And I'm Bob. What's Bob? When I look at it, to be this persona, this mask, all or nothing but a vibrating pattern of energy which is constantly changing. There's nothing static in it whatsoever. If it was static it would be the same as what it was. Well, it wouldn't, you can't give it any place where it would start because it would be even beyond the sperm and the ovum. There would have been nothing but space in which plants and flowers and trees form, which we get food from that nourishes this so-called pattern which is a mask of concepts.
And we put the words and labels on it and take ourselves to be real. And we know there's more to it, innately we know there's more to it than that. Somewhere along the lines we realise and recognise we're a little bit more. And then realise also that there's been other patterns that have been created. Shapes and forms that have been expressed, put into words, an understanding or a recognition through the capacity of reasoning, investigation and looking, that there are a little bit more than this body, mind, entry, entity, this egoic conceptual image. And when it all breaks down and the life goes out of this pattern, shape and form, what's there?
A corpse. A body. It's no longer patterning, shaping and forming. It's no longer breathing. No longer heart beating. A food being digested. So without that life essence, what's life? Life is just, what they call sentience, just an activity, a movement, a pattern that's vibrating. But it is that life energy that's patterning, shaping and forming all the stars, the planets, station is that life and we are that life like as christ told you years ago i am in the way i am the truth i am the life i'm talking about himself he's talking about that sense of presence the sense of presence which translates through the primary thought i am to express how you are you're knowing that you are right now to say i am but what are we done with instead of saying pure i am i am so and so i'm bob this guy i am this or i'm unhappy i'm depressed see what we're doing putting mental concepts on it all and differentiating it dividing it up with the concepts and the concepts are just words or images and have a look at an image there's a mirror at the end of the room here have a look at that and you'll see it's totally full of images totally full even you you , it looks like there's space and high up again but that space is imagined as in the as an image in the mirror also this manifestation is full of pattern shapes and forms and they're all like the images in the mirror or reflections in the mirror now you can't say those images are not there they look there i can see a pattern a reflection what i what i would call myself now you bob is reflected in the mirror but i can't say it's not there but i am i that reflection i'm not and can i grasp that reflection make something solid and substantial out of when it's only the mirror i can go and grab the mirror but it's not going to be much good to me and i can't grab the reflection and that if i'm touched close to it anyway there won't be a total reflection anymore it'll be reflection of the hand or the armature whatever is holding it so you can't say it's not there but you can't go and try and grasp it you can't say it is there then they give you a little idea how this manifestation is functioning and how we've got the each one has got a unique pattern shape and form expression showing us a wondrous intelligence in it enabling it to happen to form it in this unique pattern shape and form just the same as it's patterning trees flowers and everything like we say if you take the life essence out of it you've got a corpse and that body which is so animate right now is the fuse of that life right now got eyes which can't see got eyes which can't hear got a voice box which can't speak got a heart lungs there's not a bit good to it without the life essence so you see where we've got lost we've taken ourselves to be this person this separate this individual which is another term for ego self-center or reference point and believe we are with this reference point or self-center or ego taking ourselves to be that but in actuality you must point it out you are the life itself you are the life that's enabled all these things to happen and that life is one life not the myriads of pattern shapes and forms that express us through but the actuality of it all is the one life that's vibrating into all these different pattern shapes and forms and that's what we search for we've taken on this idea through our learning words and discriminating the words that we are this person this persona and we read in the ancient scriptures where people have understood and found pointed out that you are that life is they want to become whole and complete and that's what we're looking for in this life and we're looking for the because now we've see we are this person this separate entity this individual and we suffer accordingly because of that because we're fearful a lot of the things we don't understand and don't recognize a lot of these manifestations pattern shapes and forms of appearing we're not sure what they are we lose sight of them and we become fearful anxious depressed or we've got these mental concepts thoughts ideas and images again fear anxiety stress guilt shame remorse all these things come about because we're relating it to the conceptual image the words which we've learned and none of this happened here until you learned words when did you begin you'll say i began at birth but you can't remember your birth and see when that life essence patterning shaping and trimming through that pattern you called your father and your mother two little microscopic particles could deform a sperm and an ova which were suffused with intelligence energy when there's a fuse with that life and they knew what to do the sperm penetrated the ovum and formed the little embryo the little fetus which you might realize but it is what you are today it's changed a bit hasn't it and that's that what happens is transient it's constantly changed yeah you can't remember yourself before you learnt any words you can't remember yourself in the womb you can't remember yourself as a sperm is that over they didn't have any words but they knew what to do the intelligence was there's a fusion but we've taken on this belief that we are this person this sacred it's a separate entity and that is the cause of all our psychological suffering to this day and our fears and our anxiety with the words we've learned with the capacity of reasoning it came about at the age of about two two and a half when we learnt these words now reasoning can be very useful but it also can be self-destructive and that's the way it functions because this manifestation is a vibration of energy an intelligence energy the activity or movement the activity of knowing intelligence is knowing another word from you are knowing that you are right now but not as the reality unless you investigate this understood you're knowing yourself as the person the separate entity the ego the reference point the individual and when that sense of separation or belief in separation has come there must be its opposite okay if there's nothing separate it's the one essence like i use the term there's no two ended one ended stick each stick's got two ends to it so this life essence the patterning shape and forming the way it vibrates is the one vibration but it vibrates into two ends good bad pleasant painful or we believe two in happy sad and go back to a static point and with a little bit of all else and now that's fair enough we don't need to measure how many differentREY our and you we dad enables us to express through them that capacity of reasoning.
The capacity these human forms have which is more developed, more evolved than what it is in other animals, birds and insects. But they have that capacity of life suffusing at all and they don't have the capacity of reasoning to the extent we do. We're unable to work things out and that's been pretty good but it's been pretty bad also because as told us kept reinforcing we are this separate entity, we are this person, we are this individual and things are not going our way so we're unhappy, depressed, fearful, anxious, guilty, jealous, envious and that's what causes, that's what becomes our psychological suffering. Psychological means it's mental, mental suffering.
All based on the conceptual imaging, the mental capacity of taking that reasoning and not understanding it as it is. That the good and the bad are the different ends of that one stick if you like to call it. One end might be very rounded and smooth, the other end might be a narrower point than that stick but it's still the same stick. So when the good and the bad come up and we separate them, discriminate them, only want the good, realise the bad's got to be there, got to be there, it's the other end of the stick. And that's how with this mind we call this thing called mind which is vibration, I pointed out earlier.
See how it vibrates? It's always vibrating in the pairs of opposites. Have a look at it. You've got the words we've learnt, see the past which is a word, a conceptual measurement of so-called time which is no such thing as time. Future is an imagined or anticipated happening which hasn't occurred yet. Again, it only can happen in so-called time, belief in time. Past and future, good and bad, pleasant painful, happy sad, loving and hating, positive and negative. Watch your mind, see if it functions any other way than dualistically. And see if it functions any way without the boundaries. We've got to put these boundaries on it which are words we learn.
We're constantly putting the boundaries and limitations on ourselves and that's what's happened to us. We've encapsulated ourselves in a cage of concepts, of words. I'm Bob, the Australian, I'm a good fella, or they say I'm not so good, I've had a bad childhood, I'm unhappy, I'm fearful, all sorts of dramas and things have happened to me in my life and I'm breaking down, the body's breaking down now, causing all sorts of pains and fear. All concepts, all mental concepts are images which are talking about this very life itself which you can't grasp, you can't contaminate, you can't touch it at all. Life has never been touched by any of the pattern shapes and forms that appear in it.
It's expressing and appearing as that life. None of those things that are coming out of that life or from that life can touch the life itself. But as the believed in person, we're constantly confronted with these opposites. Or I'm not good enough, or I'm fearful today, or I'm anxious. But see what all happens, subtle vibration appears, is what we call a thought. And the thought is a subtle sensation. Be there for a while and bring up a subtle feeling. And this is, we'll put that label, feeling on that feeling as thought on that so-called feeble sensation feeling. And then that feeling, that sensation being near it a little bit longer.
And I'll put the, looking into it with the thought eye. Conceptually. idea of what it is will become emotion and it'll get stronger and stronger and become emotional anger fear depression guilt shame remorse all emotional concepts from a sensation a sensation is a subtle vibration a subtle movement or somewhat of a movement of that because try looking at this concept of time when does now begin you'll say it's beginning right now to say to try and grasp it with any potential try and grasp time as you say think time as a beginning and when's the beginning you'll say it's beginning right now but even as you're saying that you know it's changing and ascending because that those thoughts feelings sensations if lifters they are they're constantly transient and the thousands of cells that are dying in your body right now are changing so thought feeling and emotion are three aspects of the one thing look out in nature you'll see the same thing happen with different patterns and forms the steam water evaporates we call it steam condenses a little bit become more liquid water condenser gets a bit cooled cools down a little bit more it'll become ice from the subtle emptiness it's become seemingly solid so see what's happening with your thoughts the feelings is very subtle the thoughts are very subtle the feelings come up sensations will come up or not so subtle and when it comes into the word or the thought the fear the drama the drama becomes something solid substantial and we suffer accordingly that's where all our psychological suffering suffering comes about because of the belief that we are this conceptual image a word made image look at the word belief even all these words we picked up along the way you see the word is not the real it's not the thing take the word water water is a liquid try and drink the word even liquid that's another word or a label so you can't drink the word you can't swim in the world can't drown in the world does a word fire burn your mouth it doesn't can you cook with the word can you eat yourself with the word can't you eat yourself that's the word i or me that's just sufferings come through i'm unhappy i'm angry now if you didn't put those words on it anger or fear you've labeled it anger and fear and the energy of belief has gone into it now any time you get that same thought sensation or feeling you call it anger well then the other one whatever it might be you call this one for the other one one fear, we call this one depression, this one anxiety.
Put the labels on it, we take the word to be real and the label we put on it makes them seemingly real because the energy of belief goes into it. We put this energy, oh I'm angry, we're told when we're kids it's anger, now we think it's anger, so every time that same sensation comes up, we immediately label it with the old label instead of seeing it fresh and new. It's a never fresh feeling, sensation. Well if we label it with the old label, this one's anger, this one's fear, this one's anxiety, stress, guilt. And that anxiety, stress, guilt and fear, they're not too happy when they're going on, causing all those sensations which the energy of belief has gone into.
There's nothing going on. There's nothing going on. There's nothing going on. There's nothing going on. There's nothing going on. There's nothing going on. There's nothing going on. But there's nothing in this manifestation that is not a vibrating pattern of energy and belief goes in, well belief's just another label. Also, what's the meaning or a definition of belief? If you've got a dictionary full of words, the definition of belief, it's an unquestioned acceptance of something in the absence of reason. Now we believe in all these concepts because we've never questioned them. We've learned them and picked them up along the When parents told you you were a little Johnny, did you ever have a look?
No, but you learnt words like I, when they're saying words like I am, you learnt words like lots as I am. And you put it to them, I'm little Johnny. You're related to that conceptual image. And I am unhappy, I'm fearful, I'm anxious. So they're all added to this conceptual image. Which is to say the word's not the real, the image is not the thing. And when we've got this idea that we're fearful or unhappy, naturally brings about that sensation. And that sensation is caused, we call it anxiety and fear, it becomes seemingly real. Because the energy of a belief has gone into it. And that sensation is now something that causes an emotional distress.
And it doesn't need to be that way. What happens if I ask myself the simple question, what happens right now if I don't think about it? And if I'm not thinking about it, can I say there is such a thing as mind for a start of? If I can't say there's such a thing as mind, what can form all these mental concepts or images? Because that's all the so-called mind is, is a thought or an image. We put the label on it. Because of the over-the-top, the over-the-top, the over-the-top, the over-the-top, the over-the-top, those are all, and all these specific thoughts, feelings, emotions are mind.
And there's no such thing you can grasp and say, this is mind. And if I say, this is mind, what am I giving to you as something solid? And is there a pattern how you can say, each one of you can say, this is mind? You can't. So it's just a mental concept or image that we're labelling and believing in it. in it and the suffering goes on because of that that's what we call the self center the ego or the reference point here and I tell you in the scriptures that ego is your problem not only their scriptures but psychology will tell you people that ego is the problem I know it's the problem but they try and fix this ego and get rid of it that's where they go wrong instead of recognizing there's no such thing as an ego in the first place it's only a labor we put something on and the very trying to get rid of it trying to fix mind with mind will never happen it can't happen strike dried away as they like saying in the scriptures trying to wash away blood with blood and more blood you put on blood to wash it away the more blood they'll be that we can't wash it away so the more what we look at this mind and try to fix wine with wine the bigger the problem worse the problems are and isn't that the case if you look at your life and see what's happened they get worse and worse the problems we're allowed to load them down more energy and beliefs going without questioning and they become overwhelming so much so that people will shoot themselves trial kill themselves in some way or another try to get rid of this problem the fear and anxiety and stress that causes in the body it doesn't have to be that way and as I say it's fiction now if you hear that wouldn't you want to jump for joy and say well there's a way out get this ego a lot of people hear that and didn't try and kill the ego the ego trying to kill the ego that doesn't happen either it wouldn't be a better way if we investigate it when they say you'll never find the answer in the mind because as I pointed out look at the mind for a start I've tried to try and show me what your mind is and you realize there's no such thing as mind apart from thought I can't show you anything that I can call mine and I can't even say that these thoughts are mine now mine there were they just vibrating patterns of energy I have no static point anywhere its a label to latch on and if there's no static point which is all the ego is the seamy static point which would end up being a habit.
energy of belief has gone into it and makes it seemingly real. For the thoughts are not real, the words not the thing. And if the words not the thing, what am I without the words? Investigate it and look at it and the realisation or the recognition there that I'm still breathing, my heart's still beating. I am not unaware, I'm using terms on my own to try and describe the indescribable. But you can say the same thing, if not unaware you must be aware, or that knowingness must be there, that beingness must be there, and that life essence that's emanating that must be there to emanate it.
But it's not the body. What can this body do without the life essence? It's a corpse, but it's still got the organs, the eyes, the ears, the heart, the lungs, kidneys and all the other organs. But what good are they to you if it's not for that animating life essence, a pure vibration of intelligence energy going through it? So you realise it's not a bit of good without those. So what must you be? Instead of relating, and our problems are problems, relationship, self-centeredness, relativity, relationship, relating to the seeing, instead of relating to this conceptual image, if I relate it to the life and realise I am the life, I am the self.
And when you look at life, what is life? Life is nothing you can say about it, it's unafraid, it's got no fear, and it's free. It's not encaged in any concepts, or any pattern, shape or form. And whatever comes out or expresses as that life will express. Now when you switch over and recognise, well if I'm not the body, I'm not the mind, and I'm still here right now, even though the body is expressing as pattern, shapes and forms, all through this body, it's that life essence itself, it's not the thoughts, or the feelings or the emotions, it's life itself, which is expressing. It's intelligence, it is energy, it is the activity of knowing, being, knowing and loving to be, it is that Sat Chit Ananda.
And it's utilising this Nama Rupa, this name which we put on this body, which is a label, and the form, body itself, we're utilising that. But with the capacity, for the capacity of reasoning to come out, and we learnt words, we've taken up the being, this is reasoned, or conceptual image that's doing it all. We don't go back and recognise that before that capacity of reasoning happened in that child, I was alive. I was alive with that body without any words. I was alive in the womb, and I don't remember my birth, but I know for a fact now, and each of you must know you were alive before that, for the life essence to express through you now.
For those two sperm, they're having to come together to double that soul. And before that, the life was in the food that was eaten, to a pattern, shape and form to express through. And life is expressed, pattern, shaped and formed as everything, and so, it's the body, and still pattern, shape and forming and expressing as everything. Now take your stance in the reality. I am the life. I am that intelligence. I am that energy. I am not this body, because this body is just a product of that life essence, and the capacity of reasoning, and the function, the way it functions. It's just products of that life essence.
But we've taken to be the products to be the thing. It's silly, isn't it, the way? That's why we say, ask yourself to look along those lines yourself and see if you are this body, if you are this mind. And the very way you express it, my body, my mind, myself, you know you're not the body. There's something other or greater than that that's able to say, myself, my body, my mind. When they say, myself, we take it as myself, the personal self. And we relate to this body. And that's where the persona comes from, the mask. It's where we form the mask of concepts.
And that's where we suffer accordingly. So that's where the stance needs to be taken. Taking yourself as that. I am that life essence. Because all there is, is life. In this cognising emptiness, there is only life. There are patterns, shapes and forms that come out of that and appear as things in that emptiness. So you must realise that the emptiness itself is totally suffused with that life in it. Because there's nothing in this manifestation you can postulate or think of that could happen outside of that space or emptiness. How many sounds could there happen if there wasn't silence for it to express or appear in it?
The basic screen off the screen is what you are. We put the limitations and boundaries. Take the limitations off yourself and live in your fullness, in your totality. See how it is then. Doesn't mean to say that the opposites won't come about because if there couldn't be any appearance, pattern, shape or form, if it didn't appear dualistically and understand the belief in this phenomenon, how it appears in a phenomenal manner as if it exist. And then it would be a natural thing to analyse, that manifestation phenomena definitions of just direction definition of phenomena is that which appears to be is only appearing to be only seemingly so like the water in the mirror is only appearing to be so the sea appears to be blue the sky appears to be blue earth appears to be flat but none of these appearances are real we appear to be this person include that too we are not how we appear to be doesn't mean to say the appearances will go away or necessary disappear but they don't necessarily have to if the understanding or a knowing is there that they're not the actuality of those and when you recognize that that you are not that person you believe yourself to be and the actuality you've taken yourself to be believed we start to be you What are you going to do?
Are you going to care about what anybody thinks about you? And what you conceptually think about yourself? Alright, are you going to be in fear and anxiety, stress, guilt or remorse, or any of these things? When you know that nature, in totality, the absolute, is resolving itself constantly. It's working itself out constantly. Pattern shapes and forms break down. More pattern shapes and forms appear or express. Expressing all its diversity as we see it. We can put different labels on it. Stone ages, ice ages, this age, that age, something else changing and appearing. Global warming. All these things are pattern shaping and forming. But it's the life essence that's forming them.
Seeing them all come, whatever's suddenly coming, and all go. In this eternity. This spontaneous moment. See that? You are with this moment right now, which is uncaused, unfettered, this spontaneity. You are the eternal yourself. You are that eternity. But when you take yourself to be this pattern, you had a birth. A beginning. You'll seemingly have an end. Or you don't remember your birth. And you won't remember what your last birth's gonna be either. But the pattern which is changing all the time is transient. It's not the same pattern you walked in this room with. Notice that. And it's changed before like that manifestation has changed.
It will continually change. But you have never any beginning or never any ending. Ending is that eternity. Spontaneously. Ever fresh. Ever new. Right in this so-called moment. That's what we point to. I ask you to look into that and see for yourself. That all your problems are problems of relationship. Relative to this basic essence, this basic image you call yourself. The persona. If you haven't got that persona, what are you gonna relate to? Have a look at that. You haven't got something seemingly solid or substantial. Any solid or substantial to relate to. What and who, why or how are you gonna relate to anything? As banking told you, we call it the unborn Buddha mind.
The natural spontaneous mind that's functioning out there, if you like to call it that, in nature that hasn't got any beginning, hasn't got any end, hasn't got any labels or concept on it. Any words. It's a so-called pure mind without any labels. and he labels and he said everything is perfectly resolved in the unborn mind in nature this is the unborn mind everything is perfectly resolved and even though tsunami droughts floods winters and summers everything appearing in nature is nature troubled by any of it is it fearful of any of it or does it allow it to be as it is and actually in a vibration of it that's how it's functioning and there couldn't be any discrimination if it didn't vibrate in the opposite and it'd be the one essence that it is so the problem is we've learnt words and that needn't be a problem if it's understood because this room was an idea in months television the computer all these things were formed through the words through the reasoning capacity but also being a vibration it's your unhappiness it's your despair your guilt your shame or remorse is also formed by words pairs of opposites where does it meet where it's neither good or bad isn't it the equilibrium and the pure presence awareness right now and out of that stillness movement starts movements being a vibration it's gonna vibrate in the opposite thoughts vega motion even if they're going on now we have that capacity of reasoning and reason it out well it's not me the person that's doing in this it's a natural spontaneous functioning of life what must I be from that point of view I must be the life itself take your stance there and know that for certain and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then you can start to think about it and then might have had different recognitions, different understandings about it.
Tell us what you've grasped or understood. If you haven't grasped anything, tell us that also. And we might be able to give a little bit of a pointer to something that you might resonate with and recognise. But get into it. Think we're an object, we're not an object. Try and take on the big idea that we're the subject. Yes, that's the subtle trait. Objective appearance has taken itself to be a subject also. Yes. See, subject-object thinking is a problem, yeah. It's duality. There's no duality and non-duality. That's what we do. We constantly divide it seemingly dualistically and try and get the answer from a dualistic point of view, but it doesn't happen.
So if it's not a subject and it's not the object, what is it? You could say it's nothing. It's something or it's equilibrium or it's something. Yeah, just being. The highest value implies that there's something that's aware. Right. Even though we're trying to focus on the word awareness, the activity of awareness, but somewhere we're sort of latching onto that something is aware. And that's where I think being is a better word because it doesn't actually imply that there's something that is being, that just is being. Seeing is the same thing, you know. But if it's not unaware, you must be aware. Leave it at that.
But if we try to grasp awareness, we'll put some shape and form on it. But if you are not unaware, you are knowing right now, another term for awareness, you're knowing. And it's pure knowing before you put the knowingness and knowing that on it also. Or being, pure being. Being, knowing and loving to be. We put the concepts on those things, but it's the one thing. It's easy to see it the way I look at it. Even the seeing, as you say. You know you're seeing right now, the seeing. Even when you say being, if Bob asks you, do you exist? You say yes. That yes implies that you know it.
But this is not a knowing like, you know, I know it. Yeah. There is an awareness of it. It's really the same thing. But you're right, it could be confusing because of the assumption. But it is so subtle in a way. It is really the same thing. Awareness, being consciousness bliss. Or awareness of being is bliss or peace or whatever. It's like even to know that you are, you are. But how do you know? You know it. You know it. There is a knowing of existence. That is the awareness. There is a presence of awareness. Which means that there is a presence of knowing that I am.
Otherwise, you know, in a deep sleep there is no immediate knowing. And there is no memory when you wake up. It doesn't mean the awareness isn't there. The memory is not. But you can see how it is. I totally hear you when you say it is confusing. Aware-ing. That would be probably a... Yeah. Yeah. That makes sense. It really feels like recognising rather than trying to find what is. Bob, I wanted to ask you about the word, I know it's a word. Grace. Grace. Grace. Grace. What can you say about it much? It's sort of a, just naturally letting go, isn't it? Letting be. Letting life happen.
I suppose when in this process, to me that feels like a... Feels like grace. Ignition and grace feel like the same. Yeah. Well, we do have most of us think that we take grace as somebody's going to give us some grace or something like that. But we haven't got that idea. It's just what happens again. And also you can say grace is not me. It's not the ego. That's it. Whatever else it is, you can't find out. But it's not me. I can't. There's nothing I can do... Yeah. ...to invoke grace. There's just... It just... It's just... It's just... Awareness happens. So it's happening. It's occurring.
Yes. One could even say that grace is when the mind is not. This is the paraphrasing of Bob saying the peace is when the mind is not. Which means that the peace is there all the time or the grace is there all the time. It's just mind that becomes avail to the experiencing. And you could also say grace is... From the point of grace is... Yeah. I'm trying to say it in a different way. I used to say from the point of sanity there was awareness of the insanity. But I think from the point of grace you see who you're not. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
They call it also a sort of a blessing which is like a gift, something that dawns on you. And it is... Yeah. Like they're praying for the shower of grace or something. Which is... Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Thelicht. Yeah. Mm-Hmm. Which is yeah. The dawning. The recognition. As you said it is the same thing. Their... Because the recognition dawns on you also is something that's always been there. It's just suddenly the veil disappeared. Yeah. And it's clear and it's obvious. Mm. That was so obvious to me in my... Mm. ... when, if you like.
When I was struck sober. I love that expression... ... because I didn't do it. Yeah. And yeah. And it was like a veil had been lift on me. Yeah. lifted on the whole world and everything in it including this object exactly yeah it's something that naturally happens because nobody's going to give it to you by the grace of god i've never found a god that's going to give me any grace oh hang on natural yeah you could say the emptiness it's just something that acts on you is you could even say it is nothing that acts on you everything that acts on you yeah but it's like yeah the awareness does the recognition oh there's no me doing any recognition no that's right true that just like because i get sometimes i get those like it's a click aberration clicking yeah tony is always saying it in this way are you with us tony you might be sick about yourself I think it's more clear.
It's just a clear way of putting it. Rather than, I forget what you said now before but it's still a bit storied like something acting. I like to pure a description of experience a bit. And that's again another description of experience. What you just said now is clearer as well. You know, so it's just kind of a description of experience. And I think it's a bit more clear. Yeah, that's good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Well I think there's something to it. I mean trying to find it out like yes, something, and then you can say, well maybe more like everything or maybe more like nothing and it opens up.
And it's always describing the impossible, the indescribable using words to go beyond the mind. It's always everywhere task and we're always going to fail at it. You're going back to that awareness again you know. That's the label we put on it first. If you're not unaware, well you must be aware. Now could you have any other thoughts? if that awareness wasn't there. See, and even as you're speaking other words, there's a knowing there that you are, isn't it? And then to say, well, what am I? I'm aware, I'm aware that all these others... Everybody, you might be listening to me, you might not, but you heard that car go past.
If the awareness hadn't been there, could you say it was anything else? So nobody's got to be aware or become aware. Awareness first. And we put the concept, I am aware, you know. But what awareness is, you can put all sorts of concepts on it and try and encapsulate it in words, but no matter what words you put on it, if that is not there first, you wouldn't be able to put the awareness on it. I think the easy one is when they say, Sat Chit Ananda, being consciousness, please. Awareness and consciousness, ultimately everything is one and the same. So there's no difference between awareness and consciousness and the chair and the ceiling or whatever.
But consciousness kind of shows up perhaps even closer, that aspect of being alive, of being present and being alive, being conscious. And in some languages, I know languages at least that I speak or used to speak, there is no distinction between awareness and consciousness, like Polish or Russian or German. They don't have two words for it. English has for some reason. Other don't. That description I've got. A... Existence aware that it exists. Yeah. Consciousness is existence utterly aware that it exists. So, each and every one of you can say it. You know, immediately say, oh, I am. You're aware of that existence straight away. So...
The existence is there before you call it consciousness even. In trapping myself and trapping the seeming self and absolute, all that energy just goes into something that is absolutely not true. It's such a, just a, it's insane. Yeah. The hairy end of the bug. Grace bring the juicy end. That is very nice. It's a huge rule. Right, where is the line of talking about it being in the food we eat and, um, in the sperm, it was, it's always there. So when is it all of the sudden me? When? Yes, yeah. When? When do you begin and end and when does the universe start? It's true.
You know, like, when does the air you breathe become you? And, you know, it doesn't. It doesn't, it is, it just is, you know. All the liquids and solids that you consume and... So these contracts are being made to sign of what might be null and void. Yes. That life just is, you just are. That's it. End of story. And from that perspective, if the story appears, it just loses its thing, because you can still be the mother, the brother, the enemy, the friend, all of it, but you know it's a stage play now, you know to have fun, you know to take it easy, to take it like, take the light, the importance out of it.
This thing went click the other day around dreaming, the dream state and the waking state. I have no control over the spontaneity of a dream state, but it's just happening. Yes. It's the same in the waking state. Absolutely. That's right. There is no difference. Do it again. I had no control over that. No control, so it's like, I'll just treat this as a dream. It's just happening, you know, you being here, you being here. It's just like in a dream. The target is love all of it, none of it. Or none of it. He says the dream would... It's not your problem. Not your concern.
Your concern is that you love one part, not the other. He said love all of it or none of it, and the rest will be done for you by the same thing that woke you up to the dream. Not that you can choose to love it or to hate it. Some people think they can choose to love everything or choose to hate everything. No, it's a saying just really to show up that it's not in our hands. Don't discriminate anything. Don't discriminate, yeah. Take the order of value out of it. Take the importance out of it. Make everything equally important and it becomes unimportant. And not that anyone can do it, by the way, of course.
It is a recognition that dawns on you. It's the grace that dawns on you. Oh my God, nothing is really inherently good or bad or valuable or important at all. Get that grace out of you. It is grace anyway. Well, we used to say... Amazing, amazing grace. Amazing, amazing grace. But it feels like a... I mean, I don't know, that just feels like grace. I don't know what it means, but I just know that when I go, ah, there's some ease and opening. Yeah. Yeah. That feels like grace. It's a beautiful term. I think it's a beautiful term. But that cognizing of emptiness because it's a release.
It's a release. It's a traveling light. That's the way it feels really. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. of perspective which completely eradicate any sort of relationships and stories that are happening in the present moment and brings about the recognition of absolute oneness and indivisibility of everything a miracle and they say you could actually if it well the god comes to the quiet mind and the miracles if you if you stay in that silence stillness they they just they just appear they're like light sparkling out and it feels like the places are so painful that creates a space redirecting that's the way when life function it gets that bed you got to do something about it and also that aspect calling it grace it brings up about that love for grace like amazing grace the admiration for it is if there is any residue of an animal or a family Miraculousness in accepting or probably retain the carnalйness and a feeling of well-being.
entity or a me there, that me is down on their knees in love, totally melting in love for that super wonderful power or omnipotence or omnipresence. That makes the seeking and the ego and the seeker much lighter, the love. Like being in love is already a grace and being in love towards that grace, it kind of makes it almost like, yeah, okay, fine. I don't really need anything else. I'm happy already. I don't need the enlightenment or anything else because it is that sort of a, that sweetness is already filling me up. And when you don't want it anymore, you realize that, oh my gosh, it's nothing to want.
I always had it. It's always been there. It's just been overlooked. Come back to the place you never left. Yeah. It's always been, it's something that never changes. Something that underlies. It's always the whole scenery and the whole content, the peace or the grace or the bliss or whatever, the plain being is always there. It doesn't have beginning or an end. It's only overlooked because the attention goes to, and attention is an activity of mind. So it just goes into a content. It's like a filling up. Yeah. Like there's a fullness. That's another good way of saying it. There's a fullness. I think that's, yeah.
And if you're quiet enough and still enough, you notice that you are fuzzy something, that's quite pleasant. I think that's the best way to say it. But I think if you, I mean, if you just do, just be, because I think I was just arguing at work the other day. Just let yourself go. So we might as well be called human doings at the moment. And I say, aren't we beings? Aren't we just being? But I think if you can sit with what remains when you let go of all the thoughts and labels, then you are a full, fuzzy, warm thing. Yeah, yeah. And Bob used to say, be warm towards it.
Give it a nudge and a wink. I mean, you really are. I'm not joking. No, no, no. It's a fact. Yeah. I'm not there. You actually are a warm thing. That's not in your contract to be there. And that's why they call it Satchitananda, being awareness bliss, or being consciousness bliss, because that bliss is overlooked when the attention is spent in the content, but when there is no movement of attention and that stillness of being and that stillness of awareness of being is undistracted and undisturbed, it actually matches. It's a sense of bliss. And because it can't be held for too long. I mean, held knows nobody holding it.
But if it is really undistracted, people have experiences in meditation of absolute ecstasy. But of course, the absolute ecstasy is also an experience. But experience that can, if the distraction is taken away, that warmth or a bliss is a base. From that, the good and bad come. The pleasure and pain comes up. If there is no distraction, that Satchitananda is a pretty good description of the reality. It's not exaggerated, which is being consciousness bliss, of being consciousness stillness, of peace. It can be put in a few different ways. Existence, consciousness bliss, being, knowing, loving to be, having affection as awareness of being. What's a couple of words?
What about it? I like that. An affectionate. Yes. I met recently at the still point. There's definitely words that I think. And still point resonated. Yeah, whatever lies you're trapped in, that too, that other. Yeah. Because a still point is something that never changes. So that makes sense. Your life must have resonated a bit somewhere. And also mind is movement. So stillness is absence of mind. Yeah. So attention is the movement of the mind. The own movement. Not only is it a complicated equation, it's a lot less than that. Yeah. That's a lot of analysis. You don't need a lot of analysis. Yeah. No analysis.
That's its problem. It's not complicated enough. But it helps to, the clarity helps to, so when the light is passion, of course you will like this, of course. Of course you are desperate and it makes sense. Yes. Because you identified as that. Yeah. Yes. Yes. And then you understand that everybody else is fighting the same battle and you look around and you can't help but compassionately love people who are still in that madness and they don't know any better. And they don't even see, sometimes they don't even see a possibility to break the pattern of the madness. Oh, I heard this great acronym. I was reading it for denial the other day.
It was don't even know that it's a lie. Wow. That's beautiful. Don't even know it's a lie. Denial. Good. My few hands are this one. Forget about it. Forget about it. Forget about it. Forget about it. That's been coming up a lot, that compassion and you're walking on the streets and you see people in the story and they're like look at that head and there's a real, it hurts a bit. Yeah. You feel for them. You know what I mean. Absolutely. It does hurt. Absolutely. It does. Been there, done that. Try being a psychologist if you think you're here in the street. I mean, people bring all the time in their story and how painful their story is rather than the story is simply a story.
Yes. So you're walking and swimming. But there's something that wants to sort of do something. Yeah, it could be the beginning of awareness. And also if you are being honored with somebody sharing their painful story, and it could be a really painful story. It could be a story of abuse or something really, really terrifying. What happens with me when that happens, I actually, you don't tell them that's all bullshit, of course, you know, when it's real, you honor it, you know, the way I see it when I see someone coming deeply down into the hell, and I hold their hand and bring the light into the darkness.
And we dare together, and she is crying and shaking and yelling. And I am there together with her saying, Look, isn't it exquisite? Isn't it absolutely beautiful? If you take the judgment out of it, see how intense, how emotionally deep, how consuming, how profoundly deep and beautiful it is. And she's looking around, oh my god, it is like not that many people can feel that depth of despair that bodhisattvas sort of a turning broken hearts. And once you see the exquisite, the up totally mind blowing beauty of it. You kind of see you already appreciate it in the way it, it should be appreciate you already see the dance of life in the most profound way.
And now you kind of just look how real, how absolutely real it feels. And when she sees that, because I mostly speak with women, 80% women, when she or he sees that, yes. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. It does feel real. Oh my god. I thought it was real. But it feels real. This is how well done it is. This is how, how magnificent that intelligence is in creating the story to the point in which it completely falls for its own story. It hides and seek and it completely get lost in its own story. It creates reality of abuse 20 3040 years ago that develop into some sort of trauma.
Paranoia or fear or anxiety pattern. And it is, it is there at the base and it is so well done is so well enacted. If there was, if there was an Oscar prize for that intelligence, it would just, it wouldn't stop that. But that moment of shifting from the identification with the story into seeing the depth and the beauty and the, and the intensity. And the gosh, I sometimes run out of words to actually describe the profound. Yeah, it's indescribable, but just to, to actually shift from identification to appreciation and from appreciation to seeing how beautifully well done it is and how convincing it is because that moment.
Yes. It is so convincing. So now I'm going to tell her or him, yes, it's so convincing. You're going to fall for it again because it is inevitable. It is a pattern that has been for many, many years. You're going to fall for it again and you're going to recognize it again because once you recognize it now that recognition is a new pattern that is already formed. There is a new neuro pathway in the brain. So you're going to fall for the story. You're going to walk down the street and you are yet, yet those people, they go after me. Ah, yeah. And then you recognize again and it may need a little bit of rewiring of the brain and that rewiring can be a beautiful and profound something also to admire and love as it is happening.
Something really deep and. There are a line in the book actually. Um, we will begin. Okay. So we will begin to know of new freedom and a new happiness. We will begin to outgrow fear. We will begin to. Yes. So you begin to see the patterns and in each recognition there's a release. You know, in each recognition of a pattern there's a release. You could say grace. Absolutely. Yes. Again, back to grace. You could say grace. Yeah. And in my resistance, in my resistance of, I don't know, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know what I'm going to do. In my resistance of even looking at my own patterns because of fear of them or being ashamed of them.
Yeah. Yes. I don't, I don't understand them and understanding means to really feel them through to know them. Absolutely. And to, it's almost like in the loving of them there's just a freedom of them. Yes. So beautiful. An absolute loving of them. Yeah, yeah. Beautifully said. In all of its, in every facet of it. Yeah. in every facet of it. To let go and just let it be there. Absolutely. There's a real freedom. And as Kath was saying, in the intensity of that. Yes. Because I was so busy trying in this instance to resist and to be someone that doesn't have them. Yes. And that person doesn't exist.
And there's so much struggle in denying what is there. Or what's seemingly there in a pattern anyway. But there just seems to be more something shifting. Traveling lighter. Yes. It's beautiful what you said. You just love them out of existence. Love them out of existence. Yes. When you see the pattern in a way that it isn't really yours. Because as you said, if there is no you, it's just a pattern. And this pattern is a dance of God. It is the grace dancing. It is the intelligence. It is the energy expressing. So you've got to find a place in which you actually love it and you unconditionally accept it as an exquisite, beautiful play.
It's just beautiful. It always is. It's sometimes very difficult to do it by yourself. But you may always, you know, get someone to grab your hand. It doesn't have to be a non-duality teacher. Anyone who is willing to actually hold space. And then in this way, you really love it out of existence. Because you don't mean it. You don't want to get rid of it. You don't want to push it away. So resistance is gone. Now it's only like totally appreciating, loving curiosity. And Bob sometimes says, make it worse. Just put the volume up. Because the only thing that can happen is like if the pain is too strong, you're going to fall unconscious.
If the emotional pain is too strong, you're also going to fall unconscious. It's not a big deal. It's just seeing it in its full glory. And really appreciating it. And appreciating it for what it is. And then it really becomes impersonal. It becomes absolutely fascinating. Because it's a pointer to who you're not. Yes. It's a pattern. Every time there's a recognition, it's a pointer to who you're not. And also if you really unconditionally look at the pattern, you can see the pattern can actually teach you. How did it begin? How did it grow? And you will see. As the pattern develops. You will see how innocent the body-mind is as a victim of the pattern.
How the body-mind, like the lady I was talking lately, she had some abuses as a child. She didn't choose that. And it wasn't even a great abuse, but it was like putting a hand on her father's. In a way, it's just there are examples that can grow. The mind can make a great story out of it. And then when the belief is formed. And then when the belief is formed. And then when the belief is formed. The integrity that the mind needs to keep will find the evidence for that belief to be reinforced again and again. And it will grow into a hybrid monster. It's denial again.
Denial, yeah. You have to honor the experience. It's just... Yeah. You're talking about creating a big story about... Like, if I leave here today and get kicked by a bus, I do have feelings. I do have pain. There will be an experience that I have. And I can... And I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. Yeah. Yeah. I think what we're talking about is I could sit in my hospital bed saying, oh, I got hit by the bus because I'm an idiot, I'm a da-da-da-da-da, or I could just be sitting with the experience as it is.
And we're talking about creating a big negative story about our experience, not that I... I love that one-liner. That was brilliant. Brilliant one-liner to remember. Honor the experience. Just honor it, whatever it is. Painful, pleasant, doesn't matter. Honor it because this is the ultimate expression of life at this moment. There is nothing else. It's just the... Yeah. I mean, the challenge of what this group is about, I think, is that we allow things to just be, sit in the space, in the experience, not in the... So all experiences can sit in a... Throwing the words on the experiences, the issues. This Leela, I grant you, is exquisite.
Isn't it? But it's also absolutely preposterous. It just is as it is. Yeah, love all of it or none of it. There's no one there. They're just... They're just stories. There's an attachment, or there's not any... They're just clouds anyway. There's no... Static on the radio. There's nothing to be changed. What is it? This grace, that grace? Disgrace, that grace, it's all grace. Yeah. That is cool. That is a cool one-liner. Disgrace? Disgrace, that grace, it's all grace. Yeah. Good, Tony. It is, yeah. That's a good... So thank you, Bob. Thank you, because this awakening of inquiry is because of you. I'm going to start calling you Sailor Grace.
Sailor Grace. This picture is sketched. So it's always a two-way street. It is. Except if it's a dead-end road. A dead-end. Except when it is dead-end road. I have a question that's changing the subject of Squidgen, Because I'm always exploring where can I find the experience of truth in our everyday life, you know, even in the... Yeah. But I'm not... No. No. Yeah. It's not... No. Yeah. It's not... No. It's... It's not... Oh, it's not true. which is like the skill. But I have a feeling that when we go to sleep, when we transition from being awake, you know, reading your book, you're lying in bed and you lie down, that at some point you sort of decide to go to sleep.
And there's like a moment where you're your pure awake self between doing the daytime stuff. It seems to me like there's a little gap in there, which is like pure meditation, or then you fall into your sleep consciousness. Would you agree with that? Yeah. And at the other end, when you wake up, instead of going straight into the story, I've got to do this, open your eyes, look around the room without labelling anything, before the chattering starts. Watching without labelling. Yeah. That's my experience. I'm curious about what you were... That's right. Because I'm always looking for little windows you can point to people. You're already doing...
Because we say you're already doing it, it's just a matter of letting go of all the story. So let's find in our lives where it is, you know. In that process to sleep within... Thank you. Okay. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, everyone. Thank you, everyone.
