Now, is there any time of the day, night or any time at all when that activity of knowing is not with you? The image of the mind is full of thoughts, sensations, ideas and all the rest of it. What are they appearing in? Are they appearing in that knowingness? If that knowingness wasn't there, would you have any sensations, thoughts, feelings or emotions? Or any life at all? That is basically what you are, that activity of knowing, the pure intelligence energy. And how come we've got all these problems, suffering and all the rest of it goes on? And you see how that comes about also. That comes about in the belief that you are a separate entity.
And that doesn't come about until you're about two, two and a half or something like that, when the capacity of reasoning develops in the little child. Did you know you were a separate entity when you were in the womb? Did you say, I've got to grow a couple of fingers a day and a liver? Or a heart? Or anything like that? Before that even? When did you start? Can't say there was a time when you began even. Because with the essence of the food eaten by your father, in which that essence was the intelligence energy was in that food. And the breath. The chig or the prana and the breath.
And the intelligence energy in the mother. The same in the food and the breath. That intelligence energy formed the oh in the mother. See, he didn't say, well I've got to grow an oven now. It naturally formed from that intelligence energy function. It attached itself to the wall of the uterus. Again implying it was suffused with the innate intelligence. It didn't just float around there, really, did it? The same with the sperm. Intelligence energy formed the sperm. And there was enough intelligence energy in that sperm to swim to the oven. It just didn't find its way accidentally there. And when those two came together, what happened?
The innate intelligence fusion doubled that cell and it doubled. So how can you say you really had any beginning at all? All that's happened is patterns have changed. Patterns have appeared, patterns have changed. And it's constantly changing right now. And there are a million cells dying in your body right now. You haven't got the same body you started off with. How can you say this is me? You haven't got the same concept or image right here about yourself now. It's what you had last week and last year and ten years. So again, how can you say this is me? And that pattern is constantly changing.
The little child, as I say, up to the age of about two and a half or something, hasn't got any idea, he said, but then he starts to learn words. But this capacity of reading and developing his table has a capacity of learning words. And where does he learn them from? His parents? His school? His society? His nation? Anything like that? He hears words like a little Johnny or a little Billy or a little boy or a little girl or whatever. Parents tell me I'm no good or a bad or this, that and the other. And looking at this thing we call mind, it's quite a doubt that the body is just a pattern of energy.
Also have a look at this thing we call mind. What is mind after all? Apart from thought. Is there such a thing? And which particular thought am I? If a thought was what I was, I'd be that primary thought, I am. But how much sustenance has that got? How much power has that got? You don't even say, repeat to yourself, I am, I am, I am all day to confirm you're being. If that was what you were, you wouldn't lose sight of it. You don't even think about it. Where is it when you're in deep sleep? Unconscious or under an anesthetic? It's not there. But without that thought, do you fall apart?
Do you disappear again? Do you realise that livingness goes on without that thought? What is thought after all? Thought after all is thought at the very, very subtle level. It's a very subtle vibration. When it comes out as words, like these words are now, what are these words? These words are sound. It's all about sound. What is sound? Sound is a vibration. And what is a vibration? Isn't it a movement of energy? So it's still that same intelligence energy. It's patterning as the body, patterning as the mind, patterning as every other appearance in this manifestation. The planets. The stars. The galaxies or whatever. It's all patterns of energy.
And those patterns have nothing substantial about them at all. Or haven't got any independent nature. They're constantly changing. And in the constantly changing, again, they do not fit the definition of reality. The definition of reality is that which never changes. And what is it that never changes about you? Isn't it that sense of presence? And knowing that you are? Doesn't go back as far as you can remember. Hasn't that always been the base in which thoughts, feelings, emotions and everything else has appeared on? And disappeared on? Body changes and everything else appeared on? And that actually is no thing. That's what they use the metaphor of space like on the endless.
It's like space. Space is seemingly empty. It's no thing. Space has no centre to it. It has no circumference if it's got no centre. There's no way you can immiscer it from. So you see how our concept of time is really in government. Because we're measuring it from a reference point. A point somewhere around. As a beginning. As an ending. There's no way to measure it from. What is it? Isn't it all right now? Isn't it all this presence? Your presence? It's like it gives up to nowness.
