So can I ask a question? I've been on an emotional rollercoaster this week. What's the best way of investigating that? Well, who was it happening to? The thing to do is ask yourself, who was it happening to? Who has been on this rollercoaster, emotional rollercoaster? It's me that's been on it. You believe it's me, it's been happening to me. Now, what is the me? Have a look at that. What's been happening to you? What is me? It feels like a location. Where? Somewhere around this body. So, are you the body? Or are you the mind? So where's the location? It does have a physical sensation associated with it.
That changes when it comes and goes. But it does feel human. It's physically like something on the body. How do you know that? Because that's what, that's my impression. In other words, you're aware of it. There is an awareness of the sensation. But is the sensation the awareness? Something you're aware of? No. So you give it a seeming location. The awareness or the feeling? No, but you give it a feeling, a seeming location. And it's appearing in the... Appearing in that awareness, and you're trying to find a site for it, where it's located. It feels as though it's... Did you have a look there? Have a look right into that?
If you're aware of it there, go using that awareness, see if you can find anything there. It's only when you don't, when you're not focused on it, it appears to be solid? Yeah. But when you look at it, it's... It just breaks up. There you go. It breaks up, it can't be too solid or substantial, can it? Is it? Dynamic, it changes. But that which is looking at it, the awareness, it's what is appearing in. Has that changed? No. Is that any pain or hurt or solidity or anything about it? No, the awareness goes away. You realise it. You are that awareness. That's there primarily, isn't it?
That's what they ever thought of. Yeah. And the other's changing. Appearing in it, disappearing in it. Just like those sounds you're hearing outside. You're pleased to have some continuity though? If you're not fixating on it, what continuity has it got? You're thinking of somebody else. You're listening to the cars, for instance. How you going on? Something. Where was... Where were you hearing the cars from? Just here. Just here. They're just... They're just... They're just... They're just... They're just... They're just... They're just... They're just... They're just... They're just... They're just... They're just... They're just... They're just... Could you find a... It's like they're hearing them themselves.
Could you find a locality for it? No. So in hearing the cars was it? The sensation in the body was there then still? My mind's trying to do mental gymnastics. It's there, but it's quieter. Well, have a look and see how substantial it is right now. It's quiet. And does it have any reason to be there now? Because whatever caused it the other day, what it had was there. Yeah. And what happened, is that still going on? Or is it just a memory now? It's something that's still going on. So it's when I think of it, when I think of it, you know, the emotion arises.
So right now, it's not going on unless you think about it. That's right. Well, wouldn't it be going on if it was substantial and had some independent nature of itself, whether you thought about it or not? It's almost as though so that the thought of it has faded off, but it's like the thought of it has faded off. But it's like the physical emotion of it still feels like it's present. Well, that's not being reinforced about thinking about it again. The thought, the feeling and the emotion, you know, the thought can go, but the emotion has stirred up things in the body. That'll take a little bit longer to settle down.
Is there anything, you know, apart from thought, to stir it up now? Is whatever caused it, is that happening to you right now? Or is it something that happens at work or wherever you were before? It's almost like it feels like the emotion feels like it's there, but for no reason. It's got no reason to be. There's no reason to be. There's nothing to stay there to do. It has the awareness itself in touch with it. And could you have it if that awareness wasn't there? I don't know what it's like not to have the awareness. Right. So I found that's an addition, isn't it?
Well, doesn't it point out that you've never been away from awareness? Well, the awareness must be the constant. The other comes and goes. Yeah. So when the other is coming and going and seemingly going, carrying on, and you say, I've lost awareness, could that really be possible? It's like you lose the, I don't know, focus is the right word, but you lose the focus. You lose awareness of the awareness. Awareness is self-aware. It doesn't need anybody to be aware of it. But you say you don't know what it's like to lose it. Even though you say, you tell yourself, I lost it. It was obscured.
It was going away. But could it have ever gone away? Because anything could be without it. But you know, it wasn't there if you weren't aware. Subtitles by the Amara.org community
