Say your names so everybody's familiar with each other. Charlie, Celila, Ruthaina, Sarah, Drew, Tess, Ainsley, Rachel, Dennis, Justin, Terry, Charlie, Kat. Now your eyes are filled with this though. Most of you have heard it all before. You'll hear it again and again and again until it really, if it hasn't already sunk in, just recognising it and hearing it will. I can't teach you anything and I can't tell you anything. I understand that right from the start. All I do is point toward and ask you to look to where I'm pointing to. When I say I, I'm not talking about this personal identity. That which is coming out using this voice, and this voice, and this pattern to express through.
And that'll be the same with you and everybody else. So you can only point towards it. And then ask you to look into where we're pointing to. And you'll see it's nothing new we're pointing to. If you've looked into this stuff a bit, you'll register. And it'll register or recognise it's the basic of all the ancient texts and all the ancient scriptures. They all start off with the non, what we call non-duality. The one without a second. The one without a second. Here, our Israel, the Lord thy God is one God. There is none other. It points to it in the Hebrew. In the Muslims, there is no God but Allah.
There's no God but God. Allah is his name. And the Buddhists will say it's non-conceptual, ever-fresh presence awareness. Invite and say it's non-duality. It's sat-shet-ananda. Existence, consciousness, bliss. Anyone who is not existing right now, anyone who is not conscious or aware right now, anyone who is not happy to be. This is the simplicity of it. It's simply that soul. Not S-O-U-L, which we take to be. Nobody's ever found a soul yet. Cut many bodies open and never found anything they can call a soul or what you might believe to be as a soul. S-O-L-E. The one. The non-dual one without a second. That is all there is.
And you cannot be anything other than that. And the Maha-Vakhi or the great mantra, the great label is I am that. Thou art that. This is that. That is that. And we know that in our language. Because you don't just say that's a chair, that's a carpet, that's a tree, that's a flower. That is him, that is you, that is me. Everything is that in reality. The that-ness is its non-dual existence, consciousness, bliss, being, knowing, loving to be. But we put conceptual labels. And I told you that in the Bible when you look at it. In the beginning it was the Word. The Word was with God and the Word was God.
Simply that. That's all that God is. A Word. But we've set it up, God as something higher power, greater power than what we are. That we've got to bow to, we've got to worship, we've got to believe in it. It will grant you this, that and the other. But when you look at it, there's one without a second. And the only power there is, is the omnipotence. The total power. Omnipotence. Total. Everything that's patterning, shaping and forming is that power expressing as other than itself. So it is the soul beingness. And the wondrousness of it. And the wondrousness, the amazement of it. It can express in all this diversity.
All these patterns, shapes and forms are that. You take yourself, recognise yourself as that. And just being that without any concepts, isn't there a warmth? Isn't there affection? Isn't there that love of being? And the pattern, shapes and forms that appear in it. Instead of diversifying and differentiating. And I like this one, I don't like that. You'll see the wondrousness of it all the way. Pattern, shapes and forms. Know it to be that which is expressing. And only that. Read a little bit out of this Raibu Gita, which is an ancient scripture. I knocked everything down. An ancient scripture that expresses it all beautifully. But like a lot of the texts and scriptures, we read it and hear it.
Don't look into the meaning of it or how it's written. It's just a little bit. The meaning of it or how it's differentiated. And put it aside. And this is not what starts off, this is further into it. In the unitary, undifferentiated, still ocean of being, knowing that self. Being, knowing that self. Not personal self, but the one self that's appearing as everything. Body, senses, mind, intellect and embodied souls. That's what we take ourselves to believe, in these embodied souls. But you can't find a soul anywhere. That's the embodiment of that one self. What we are appearing in these bodies. But without that life essence expressing through them, you know, take the embodiment of it, you are still the one that has it expressing through it.
You recognise your true nature. And you realise you're always one of them. The universe. The universe of name and form. And that's all there is. Hatchet and hand and arm and rip and name and form. So it's the universe of name and form and all. Again, these patterns. Haven't you put names and forms on it? Even yourself and everything around you. The cat, the chair, the carpet and everything are name and form. The embodied creatures and their creator. Mind. So all this thing we call mind is this patterning, shaping and forming. There's no such thing as mind when you look at it. But the parent thing we call mind, the vibrating intelligence energy, which we call mind, all these, that is the seeming creator of these patterns, shapes and forms.
And when you look at it, there's no creator. We call God the creator. But there is no creator. Nothing's ever been created. Because there's no creator, there's no creation. It's all patterns, shapes and forms, which have no substance or any interpretation. They come and they go. And their creator, mind, out of it comes desire, misery, everything other than the self are merely thought formations projected by the power of the self on its screen, the self. So in that stillness, that emptiness, there's a subtle vibration or an appearance that vibrates into patterns, shapes and forms, which this wondrous way that patterns, shapes and forms, we appear to be real, appear to be all these different labels and things we put name and form on.
Come in, find us out somewhere. So that's what's going on. We're patterning, shaping and forming. And we're so used to it, the habit pattern, we've taken it to be real because our parents, schools, society and nation took it to be real. There's very few that down through the ages have looked at this. But all the great texts and scriptures and religions are formed about it. And the ones that formed about it spoke the truth. They saw the truth and recognised the truth. But others relating to it, instead of looking into it and seeing the truth, are putting all sorts of concepts and ideas and differentiation on it and set it up to give it some seeming power and something which we can take to be a religion or a thing.
And if you don't do this and don't do that, you know, you're going to be in trouble. You're going to go to hell or whatever and beat yourself up. But see, how can you? How can you if you realise and recognise your true nature as that one essence, that great perfection? Which I tell you in Buddhism, the great perfection is non-conceptual awareness. Anybody who is unaware right now, you realise, look at it, don't even know. I can't negate that. I can't tell you what awareness is. Because we try to grasp this thing called awareness or consciousness, and what can you do? It is nothing but a label or a word, which we put all sorts of shapes, patterns, forms on to seemly give it some reality.
But non-conceptual awareness. And you realise that sense of presence that you are now pattern, shapes and forms appearing in it. And what would they be if you didn't label them? If you didn't label them. So in the beginning was the word. And you didn't have any words while you were in the womb forming. And you can't remember your birth. So you didn't have any words. You can't say I was born at such and such a time. You don't remember your birth until about two, two and a half. So in the womb when you're four or nine months and a couple of years before you learnt any words, what were you?
Who were you? And you can't say I was, you can say I was there, but what are you pointing to? A conceptual view means to know there was an awareness there then, but you didn't have any words to label it. When you have learnt words, in the beginning was the word, the word was with God. And that's all that God is. It's not something out there in the sky that's going to beat the shit out of you, or going to give you this or give you that. It's a word, which we put all these other things on, all these other concepts or forms on it, give it some substance, because the word was God.
The word was with God and everything was formed by the word. There was nothing made that was made without the word. And see that's what happened. When you learnt words, you began to label things, and we've labelled things consistently ever since. More and more, the more we grow and the more we learn, the more words we take on. And realise that everything you're labelling is the word. What can you say, call, anything, if you've not put the word on it, the label, your name and form, you've learnt for it. But without the word, you can't say it's not. But you see it in a different light.
You see it in its freshness, its newness, everything is ever fresh, it's non-conceptual, without the word on it. And you see the wondrous pattern, including you, the form it's expressing through. And realise it couldn't express through that form if that form wasn't there. But look at that form. What is it? See the life essence that's flowing through it, the blood, the veins, the nervousness, everything that's happening before it. It's a wondrous shape and pattern and form, like everything else around you. But it has no substance or any independent nature of itself. What form have you got without a label? If you look into a book, if you look into it and recognise yourself without the word, what's wrong with you right now if you don't think about it?
Have a look at that. And in doing that, you must say, what can I say that's wrong with right now? And naturally, to have a look at that, a thought will pause. Thinking will stop for a moment. And what can you do without the thought? You'll recognise that without the thought, without the word, I haven't fallen apart, I haven't disappeared, it's not the end of me, I'm still functioning, heart's still beating, that's life. Breath is still happening, hair and fingernails are still growing, functioning is still happening at all, thoughts are appearing and disappearing. Life is going on without the word. And the word is not the thing.
Have a look at that and see what power power has the word got. Take the word water. Can you drink the word? Can you wash in the word? Can you swim in the word? You realise you can't. It's just the label we put on H2O. We call it water. Does the word fire burn your mouth? You realise it doesn't heat yourself with the word, you can't heat yourself. You can't cook with the word. You can't do anything with the word because it's fire. It's just a label. So again, we've got this label we've taken to be I or me. And you put all sorts of concepts on it.
I'm a good fella, I'm not so good, I'm happy, I'm unhappy, I'm depressed, I had a bad childhood. All these conceptual image which are based on past events and experiences and expressions that have come up. Dead images now. The word you had about yourself last week, last year, you've got a word about yourself now. Dead images. The images of fresh and new. Because this manifestation, as they tell you, is transient. It's constantly changing. It's ever fresh pattern, shapes and forms appearing on that stillness. On the emptiness. The Buddhist calls it a cognising emptiness. Pointing out as an emptiness, a fuse with that innate intelligence. And that's all pattern shaping and forming is.
We call intelligence energy. It's the way where you put on it. The activity of knowing. Intelligence is knowing. Another type of knowing. Anyone who is not knowing right now. And isn't that knowing an activity? It's not still. Because you're perceiving this, thinking that and conceptually moving. So the conceptual appearances, patterns, shapes and forms, as they say, are like ripples on the ocean. Ripples, tiny ripples, for a start off, they form into waves and they form into all sorts of things. But they are just subtle vibrations on the stillness of being. And that is stillness, what we've done. We've formed concepts and ideas which we take ourselves to be real.
And we suffer accordingly. Now as I say, I can't tell you anything, can't do anything. You've got to recognise this for yourself. And you might recognise it straight away. You might gel with it. Or you might need to come back and hear it again and again. But something attracts you to come here. Why? You've read something or heard something and it brings you to where it's recognised. You hear it and you resonate with it. There's a resonation with it, a recognising of it. And that resonation tells you, come back to where it's being recognised. And it's not coming back or going forward, but a natural opening to where that resonation is.
And that resonation will start to grow. Well it won't grow, but what happens, the conceptualising entities we put on it will start to recede. Because the energy of belief can no longer go into them. When you see yourself, you're not this believed in entity you've taken yourself to be. You can't believe in something anymore. How is it going to affect you? It won't. Though it'll come up as a habit pattern for a while, in the continued recognition of it, you see it's got no power. There's no mind power, thought power, will power or one power. It's still that one power that has always and ever been.
That one power. Instead of being divided into several seeming powers, it goes back to totality. And the more that's recognised, using the analogy of the clouds in the sky, the clouds seemingly obscure the sun. But what happens when the clouds are seen through and they start to disperse? Isn't there more clarity? Isn't the sun brighter? Isn't there that light of knowingness within you being something that gets more clear and less clarity, not bound by the conceptual images we have on ourselves? And that's what seemingly needed to be recognised. And the old scriptural saying is, abide as that. Here it is again. The basic scriptural, basic...
whatever they call it, I can't think of the word, functioning. I am that. That is what I am. And they tell you, don't abide as this conceptual thinking that you're this perfect. Abide as that which is no thing but cannot be negated. Have a look at that. Can you say, I am that? I am not. Yes. You can say it. But what have you negated? All you've negated is some of the concepts you might have had. Have you stopped living? Have you stopped breathing? Has your heart stopped beating? If you're negating I am that. So it leaves a pure I am-ness. And that I am-ness, that's what's missing.
I've got to tell you, stay with the I am-ness. Not staying with the thought, I am, because that's just the conceptual image. But what does that I am represent? Doesn't it represent that sense of presence? The beingness that you are, the knowing that you are? What are you basically sitting there, what do you know? You know I am. Without putting any concepts, I'm this body, I'm this mind, I'm this person, I'm this unhappy or sad person. Just stay with that I am-ness, the sense of presence. And it's not the sense of the past or the future. It's the sense of this present, this immediacy, this actuality that's going on right now, where things are expressing and unfolding.
Take all your conceptual images off, which you've related to in the past, which are now dead, the boundaries and limitations you put. What you are, as it says here, you are that undiffriation, undifferential still ocean of existence, beingness, body, senses, mind, intellect, body, soul, and the other self. All of these bodies are nothing but evanescent ripples, not apart from that soul self. The self that you are is the soul, S-O-L-E, not S-O-U-L. It's the one self in this room. There are not many selves, not only in this room, but out there too in the universe. It is the soul, evanescence, patterns, it's expressing as everything.
You are that, that is what you are, that is always what you've always been and always will be. Relax into it, abide as that, and recognize you are not this body. How will you abide as that? Recognize that you are that. Are you this believed in intents? Are you this body-mind? Well, have a look. What can you say without putting in any concepts on it? What happens in this immediately? Anybody who is unaware right now, now? No, you recognize it and anybody was not seeing right now, anybody was not hearing that right now. No, you'll say I'm seeing, I'm hearing, I'm tasting, touching, smelling. It's happening, those functions are happening.
So ask yourself this, can my eye tell me I see? And you realize no, my eye can't tell me I see. But you'll realize the seeing is happening through the eye. The eye is the instrument through which the seeing is happening. In this pattern, shape and form body you call yourself it has the eyes, the ears, the mouth, the heart, the lungs and all these necessary organs for a pattern that expresses through. But have a look, can the eye say tell me I see? No, eye can't tell me I see. But the seeing is still happening. The thought comes up I see and you realize that thought I see is happening and you realize that thought I see see, the seeing is translated by the thought I see.
If you haven't got the thought I see, the mind comes up and translates the thought I see. But can that thought I see actually see? And you realize, no, the thought itself can't see. But the seeing's happening, the thought comes up, what must it be coming up on? That stillness aware in itself, that pure intelligence energy, translates as the thought I see, through the mind. The mind is the instrument which would translate it. The same with the thought I hear. The ear can't tell you I hear. But the hearing is happening through the ear, so the ear is the instrument, like the eye is the instrument of the seeing, the ear is the instrument of the hearing.
And translated by this instrument, we call the mind. But can the thought itself, this thing we call mind, can the thought I see actually see? Shut your eyes and see what you can see with a thought. Then you realize you can't see with a thought, the thought I see, can't see. Put your hands over your ears and see what you can hear with a thought. You realize the thought I hear can't hear, so the hearing's happening through, the seeing's happening through the eyes, and the thought hearing's happening through the ears. The thought I see can't see. And the thought I hear can't hear. So this is what we've been relating to.
Our self. The thought I see, the thought I hear, the thought I am aware is the thought I am aware of your awareness. Are you unaware in this moment? And you realize, no, I'm not unaware. And all the time we've been talking about this, that awareness has been there. But you haven't said, I am aware, I am aware. You didn't have to. Because the awareness is functioning of itself. So you see, this thought up entity, this ego we believe in, has got no power. Can't do any of these things. It's got no independent notion of the I, thought, can't see, can't hear, can't hear, can't say anything.
But it's translated into the instrument we believe in. And take the life essence out of this body and see for yourself if we think the thought is doing it. What can we say without that life essence? The body's a corpse. It's got the eyes. It's got the ears. It's got the mouth. It's got the heart, the lungs. But what can they do without that life essence in the body? You can't say a thing, can't hear a thing, can't take a breath, can't do anything. So the thought I see, can't hear. The thought I hear, can't see. I mixed up the thought. The thought I'm aware of is not the awareness.
The thought I choose, can't choose. A corpse cannot do anything. So though we believe it's got that power in it, it hasn't. It's that life essence that's in the body that's giving it the seeming power as the thought, the feeling, and the emotion. Take the life essence out and you've got a corpse that can't do anything. Just an analogy, a good analogy for it is your computer. Look at your computer. Got all that information on it. Punch that mouse and move those keys and you get all sorts of things up on the computer. Turn the power off. What can you get out of it? Nothing.
Take the life essence out of this body. How many thoughts can a corpse have? What can a corpse do? It can't do anything. So you see for yourself. It is that life essence that's forming that pattern and renewing that pattern and keeping it going, causing the thoughts to think, that's doing everything. There is no separate entity, individual or person that's doing anything at all. So the person is not the reality. The person or the body. The individual self is a conceptual image. There's no personal self. There is no self but the one self that's appearing, patterning, shaping, forming and expressing as everything. And that is what you are.
That is what I am. Where's the separation? Where's the differentiation? There's none whatsoever. But we'll take it and let it appear to be and let it express as it does. But the difference is as the scriptures just tell us. But the difference is as the scriptures just tell us. You know the truth. And the truth will set you free. And the truth will set you free. What's this truth they're talking about? And what are you free from? Isn't the truth and recognition that you are that soul? S O L E, self? That one self is appearing, patterning, expressing as everything? And then what are you free from?
You're free from the bondage of belief. That I am this person. I am this individual. I am this separate entity. I'm the good fellas having a bad trot. I'm unhappy. I'm depressed. I'm faced. I'm fearful. I'm all these conceptual images that we believe ourselves to be and believed ourselves to be even for years and keep conceptualizing something that's been dead for years. The actual thing that happened to you that seemed to be traumatized during your taking the belief to be real is dead and gone years ago. Have a look at that and actually see what power has it got in the moment unless you're recalling it and putting on the past memories and images and concepts and ideas and images you've got about it.
Bring it up and making it seemingly real and beating yourself up with the false image. Continue to do that if you want to. Look into it and see the fact that it doesn't have to be that way. It doesn't have to be that way. It's not that way here at all. And the little bit that comes up now out of memory and out of habit doesn't last too long. It can't last too long because it's seen through. It's seen that a dead image has no actually in the moment. The images that are forming are ever fresh, non-conceptual, ever fresh, presence awareness. And you can't negate that presence, the pre-sense that's happening right now, as you can.
And you can't negate it. It is the actuality. That's why you can't negate it. And it is the fresher newness until we put an old label on it. But leave it in its freshness and newness and see what happens from there. And you'll recognize the love that's in that body, the affection that's in this room, the love that's everywhere. We call it love. But don't get your head around it. It's just a conceptual idea of what you think love is. Some concept. No, it's that affectionous awareness of being. You can put it as the word affection or being, but it's a gladness. Not the sadness.
Call it the gladness. Or as in Saga, but there's nothing wrong anymore. Nothing wrong at all in that sense of presence, in that freshness of it. And in that sense of presence, there's clarity of the sun or the essence, the pure intelligent energy that's within you will shine forth in its soul and wondrous existence. And it'll grow and ever become fresh and clear. A little bit that comes up, the aging and the things that come up here, they have no accordance with one another. They can't stand long. It doesn't stop the pain and the aging from happening, but it's lost its sting. It can't be believed anymore.
That's what we point to and ask you to look at. Now, you got any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to bring them up. Because you've got a taste of this and you've warmed towards it and there's something there's still doubts or predictions or concepts you've got that are still there. Bring them up. Let's question them. Let's have a look at them. Let's see if they're real or not. And what we point to and ask you to look at them. Have a look at your beliefs. Question your beliefs. Because to take your definition of belief, it's an unquestioned acceptance of some things in the absence of reason.
Acceptance of an alleged fact without positive knowledge or proof. You take this belief, you are this person, your parents, your school, society, everybody. It's an alleged fact. Have a look and see if it's real. Have a look at a lot of the other facts we've taken on. Conceptual ideas. Investigate and see if they're real. And in the investigation, they'll fall apart because the reality, the investigation cannot stand up, the false cannot stand up to the reality. And it's seen and recognised in its falseness and it becomes the truth and recognition to be hide it all is the truth. And that scripture will become as truth.
Know the truth and it will set you free. I can only rave on about it and ask you to look it for yourself. But question it and get into it. I get it. Some of you recognise it here. Well, you can pass this on to others and you'll recognise it and you might see it in a different pattern, shape or form which could come up in the shortest variety and expression of different patterns shows it. Don't be fearful of it. Don't doubt what other people think. It is coming up and expressing. Make it your own. Make it your reality. Express and live as that. Abide as that as it says.
So away you go. The sense that I'm here and you're there, is that sense out of habit? Is there any reality? Is that just something expressing on top of the mind or on the surface in the mind? When you say what is here, Bethune, what do you say that is? This body. Yeah, well, and something inside. Prior to the body and what's inside. Prior to that body and what's inside, just say the fact of the here-ness. There's a sense of presence there. What's this? Is that outside of that presence? That body is inside that presence. Same presence as there. Yeah. So you can't separate it really, can you?
It's all... So it's still just a sense of presence, here-ness. Or being-ness. You can't separate or divide the being-ness. And that doesn't have a location, does it? Well, you can't, no. Where's here and there? Pinpoint this immediacy. Can you find a static point in this emptiness? Can you say space begins here? Got a pattern, a circumference, or an energy? You can't. So that... What you're saying is here-ness. Sense of presence. You can't give it a direct or a point. So it's everywhere, or every when, or every how, or every why, or every what for. But you can't negate it. It's the pure being-ness. Isn't it?
Negate that? Okay? No. No, you can't. Well, relax. Relax into it. See what comes up on it then. And test what comes on it. You said name... We put name on top of things. There's a level that we put name on, and then there's a level that when you said take the name away, what you're left with. I was looking at that piece of furniture when you said that, and it didn't change its form, but something about knowing it changed. My relationship to it wasn't separate. It wasn't separate to it. So it's just the knowing. It was the knowing. So take the labels off, or the levels.
What levels are there? Take the levels off? Yeah. It just keeps going into it. Yeah, just seemingly it'll continue to seem to be happening. But you know the truth. Like I'm going to say, taking the levels off, they're giving you some substance and independence. It means you're not going to trip over the chair or fall out of it. You'll see it as it is, but you won't be separating or dividing. You'll look around the room and see everything as it is. You won't be separating and saying, that's Belden, he's an idiot, or this is someone else and I don't like them. There's a pattern, shape and form there.
And what's it appearing to? It's appearing in this cognising emptiness. And isn't that amazing? Isn't there a warm thing to recognise? How the hell can that be? That is, I can't deny it. And I can't take it away from that affectionate awareness of beingness. If I like to look in the old patterns, he's an arsehole, he's this, he's that, and I don't like it, I don't like that. And it's happening to me, poor me, they're all... While I took that attitude, I bound myself up into a conceptual image. If I haven't got that attitude, I would have expanded into the openness. And it's not going to change this.
It's not going to be different. It's going to change, it's transient. The pattern, shapes and forms will continue to appear and reflect and will appear on that stillness. Can you postulate? Look at this outside there. You'll see there's a space or a stillness there, which trees and everything are appearing in. And that stillness goes behind the trees and goes back as far as you remember. Went outside, it'd be above you, it'd be all around you. You can't negate that. But the things that pattern, shape and form are constantly coming and going. And the body that's appearing as company is changing right now. There are cells dying at it right now.
You are the life essence in which it's appearing and forming. To that body-mind, that life essence is no thing. It hasn't got any shape, any form. But in the recognising and knowing it, it is everything. Everything. And no thing can no longer be differentiated. They can no longer be divided. There's no division or separation in the totality. In the... What is it in the... Omnipotence. In the pure intelligence, the pure knowing, the pure awareness, total power. It's total. Everything is total. Absolute. You can add anything to the absolute, when you take that word absolute. What can you add to it? You add the lightest thing to it, the smallest thing, it wouldn't be absolute.
Take away the smallest thing, it wouldn't be absolute. So it's there in its totality. And that totality is right here and right now. Nobody can take anything away from it. Nobody can add anything. You might think you can do something to it, and this is bullshit and all the rest of it. Try as hard as you like. And you'll realize you've never done anything to it. It's always and ever been that. And realize and recognize, I am that. I am that. Abide at that, they say. You will... You will settle into the knowing. There might be all sorts of doubts and ideas come up. Initially there will be.
Because I constantly look for years and years into trying to fix that self and make it where, you know. Looked in the mind for the answer to fix the self. But the answer is not in the mind. It never was, never could be, never will be. Because you question the mind, and you'll see that the mind is nothing but an ever-recent ripple on the screen of that stillness. Just like a wave is an ever-recent ripple on the ocean. The ocean is still and empty. But yet it's ever-changing and never-changing. As the vibrating essence goes through it and forms ripples and waves. But it was never anything other than the ocean.
Nothing to be added to it, nothing to... There's a poor analogy, all those are. But recognize what we're pointing to and see for yourself. Cats are noticing that they're just drawn by sensations. So I'm watching the cat to see what it's going to do next, but the other cat's watching what's moving the most. Whether it's the cork or the other cat's head or the bumps into the cat or something that smells something else. Just purely... Yeah. So you're going to divide it into the cat and you? Well, I don't really care about that. Actually, when you said the word expanded, then I just felt quite expanded about it all.
It's just triggers and reactions or responses. Like the way you divide up, respond and react? Or does that point to that you came up with recently? Which is? He's saying... You know how you were saying with the pointer, respond versus react? Yeah. That's quite useful. Did you want to elaborate? Yeah. Why, Ruddy? Natural reaction or response will come up. Sometimes it's got something to do with it. And that's the way it's going. Isn't the natural response right now going on? Did you take that breath you just took? What did you have to do about it? Did you think about it? Did you think about your heart expanding and contracting right now?
You didn't. It's happening. And you don't think about it, because you know it's spontaneous and natural and beneficial. But see how much power that mind has got. Breathe out. Hold your breath for as long as you can. Tell yourself with all your mind, power and mental support, I'm not going to take another breath. Tell me when you can no longer hold it. When you can no longer hold it, what would you say? There was a natural power that was stronger than that thought power that was carded to me that made me take that breath. And you get a start to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
A power greater than ourselves that they're talking about. It is that totality, that one power. Not mind power, thought power. When they call it the soul existence, people think of S-O-U-L. I've got a soul. Have a look at it if you're telling it S-O-L-E. The one and only. The soul existence. That is your true nature. I don't know how those words came to be mistaken. But my idea of understanding it's the one soul that expresses that everything. Look at the energy that's expressing through that body. It's got the shakes, the Parkinson's in the hand. We call it Parkinson's. Mind power, can I stop it? Try to.
I can't stop it for very long. And what's going to happen to it? Where it's going to happen? Who cares? It's going to develop, I suppose. It's going to go through the body. A power greater than ourselves. One of the steps in the 12-step program. Trying to believe in a power greater than ourselves that can restore us to sanity. That's a deflationary step in the ego. Me needs to be restored to vanity. Me who can believe in a power greater than ourselves. But it was recognized that there is this one power that's greater than the Bob, the idea of Bob, the present pattern energy. Ever was or ever could be.
And it's that one power that's causing the wind to move those trees out there outside. It's the one power that's causing the earth to roll around the sun. Tides to come on and out. It's breathing you, it's beating your heart, it's growing your hair and your fingernail. Take delivery and recognition that you are that. Pardon me. I had a challenging conversation with my partner this morning. Part of the challenge of this is when somebody relates to you as an individual who is kind of upset or offended and you don't know what to do. I mean, it's very easy to find yourself kind of falling into that role of feeling like you've done something wrong.
Yeah. You have to respond. You feel the sensations of guilt. And in those moments, it's a real challenge just to sit and see life acting itself out and to hang onto that sense of gladness. Yeah. Well, isn't it, when you break the old habit, isn't it becoming more and more, the sense of gladness is going to be there more, clarity naturally of itself. And if you continue to the extent that you did in the old habits, it'll still come up. If the gladness comes up in the conversation, it pisses her off even more. Yeah. You'll recognise that pissing off and the gladness is more pronounced than the pissing off.
Yeah. It still happens, everything's come up. Yeah. And you laugh at it. And how can it, it can't hang on and can't be believed in very much even though it still goes on. It becomes a big joke, you know. We have a partner here that we practise on, we practise on each other. It doesn't last long. There's a joy and a joyousness in that non-conceptual, ever fresh presence of the West, a natural sense of wellbeing is inside that, there's nothing wrong, being well. Put it the other way, well being or being well. Anyone who's not well right now, they're saying there might be a sense of sickness or a heaviness in their body, What's it appearing?
Would it appear without that stillness and background? Well, focus more into the background which is appearing. The content starts to lose its hold or continues to lose its hold because you can no longer believe it. And the knowing is that this pattern's not going to be around forever. But who gives a shit? I don't. They mightn't like the way it's going. I can't remember the birth. I can't remember when it came into existence. Yet for a long time I believed that it came into existence. A long time. I was focused in the conceptual pattern. Today it's still going on, but the belief can no longer be there.
Come on, some of you know it. Let it out. It is the one playing as many as it wants. It is the one. It is the one. Playing as many. Yes, exactly. Like the ocean. Exactly. You know, the ocean is one. Yet again, many waves, many ripples, many movements. But when you go deep down in it, it's all one love, one unity. And not emotional love, but unity of love. It's like that tree in the ground. The scarlet in the building. And you are that. Absolutely. You are identified as that. Absolutely. So, there again, you see, it's not just this. And you can't say it just mentally.
You have to basically grasp it and self-realize it so that it's there. We are beautiful divine beings, and we don't realize it as the One. We are beautiful divine beings and we don't realize it. We're just so caught up in the mind, so caught up in the thoughts. what's next we're missing the obvious I certainly did for a long time I was looking out I was looking there and missing the truth like what's speaking right now it's making this body speak it's like the poem is a computer act this is just another instrument like another pattern is obsessed we are timeless beings experiencing time tell us the words come forth that words come out the sound comes out you can hear the sounds let the sounds resonate in that body and resonate with what recognized three carbon eyes you've already cognize it already know yourself it's fine I was placed it because when I walked in this morning there was this immense love for both my heart expanded you know it's not so much for the body it's itself meeting itself or being with itself it's no Bob or Charlie it's itself embracing itself and so for all of us here so just both you all come with different names it's all of us all of us the same one it's like space but then again I even asked that if we are aware of space we must be subtler than space we cannot actually describe it cannot be described you try to like Bob says you know we try to put our name attack to it then you bring it down into the mind again good description satellite so what do you disappear in the subtle subtle way not putting over a step further with the cat thing was like um guess what we do is we we look for this abstract game and then we the rules of the game and now the focus just goes to the game whereas the cats are still doing sensations only and then I was just sort of seeing that elsewhere how some of the stuff this here is it's it's the game the game of like you know appeasing people's so they don't kick me out in the cold or whatever it is the game and it's just the attention it's all unity that the attention is just on this game that the animals don't have realize it's the only game in town according to the humans to know all this you know is an idea as a concept you know we hear you talk we read about it and this and that you know it's fine and even to believe it it's fine too I'm not saying it's not but what is it so hard for to experience it well what are you experiencing right now I know hmm what you're seeing what you're hearing it's pure experiencing going on right now so when you're not dividing it into an experiencer I think I'm experiencing it and the experience you're not separating the two what are you you are that pure experiencing the life itself when you say I am the way like Christ said I am the truth I am the life not talking about himself talking about that sense of presence separating yourself into I as a me and that it's the one essence of pattern shaping falling and expressing or experiencing everything so you must be that experiencing the experiences is going on in that pattern now any different experiences going on over here the conceptualizing that might be different the actual livingness is the same in everyone in this room and everything you are that life if it's hard to experience it it means that there is an idea about how the experience should look it means that this experience current experience has been judged by the mind as not this like I am not experiencing it just yet I'll experience it later when it will become easier but the truth of it is that everyone is aware of the being and awareness of the being is the experience this is it but because we so familiar with it it doesn't feel like anything special like ah come on is that the great enlightenment yeah we basically just like we can't see the space because it's too close to our eyes we completely discard it and we focus on objects so now we are talking about the great enlightenment or the realization of the true nature of thing to be an emptiness and that very emptiness expresses as the sense of presence gives itself a body of the eyes to look and that very sense of presence is all there is because everything has the being so it sounds for the mind like something come on it can't be it it can't be space that I can't see it has to be grounder lighter bigger greater more blissful more ecstatic it can't be just pre sense because it's nothing it feels like nothing and the art of staying with that nothing brings the experience to the level of ecstasy occasionally but it doesn't really matter because the ecstasy is coming and going it's bullshit it's just another way another way it it expresses but what is expressing is that nothing and everybody is experiencing that nothing which is a base for the sense of presence all the time it's just that this is not interesting so we focus on experiences that will be more prominent or more pleasurable and we say no I'm not experiencing it right now I want to experience it but what I want to experience is not this because I know that this is not it's not how do you know this is not it actually is that the the problem was when someone says I can't experience or it's hard to experience it means there is a very subtle layer of expectation of how the experience should look and the idea that all because current experience doesn't match that subtle expectation and I'm speaking from experience because for most of my life I had an idea that Nirvana or great enlightenment is a continuous bliss and of course I didn't experience continuous bliss and I still don't experience continuous bliss but I don't have that idea anymore so the experience of being is there 24 7 sometimes I'm unaware of it because the computer is switched off for the sleep but the being is there and staying with that being with that nothing with that boring sense of nothing's going on is is the gateway that's why we say mind can't grasp it because mind always wants the activity always something interesting some destruction and some pleasure and some insights some wisdom or whatever anything that is that is not constant that is coming and going and something that's quickly going away and that is when we see it we say okay I have a great search of love I have a great search of connection that's that's all coming and going that's all content and they're beautiful just like sadness or anything else everything is this is a beautiful way it expresses but we are getting back to what is that expressing what is that life that is pumping blood through the veins This is the experiencer or experiencing.
Can I do it right to say that we are just expecting a big transformation to happen? Yes, totally. And if it doesn't happen with our world, that's not it. Because we look without... Exactly. And the one, the I, who is expecting to get transformed into the enlightened being, is never ever ever going to be transformed. We have to look what we should look. Yes, this I is the Santa Claus, it's a phantom. This I is going to collapse. And who is there to be transformed? Yes, exactly. As Charlie and Kat mentioned, subtle. Instead of looking at the big outrageous blast of ecstasy, go into the subtleness of it.
Into the subtlety and see what's really very subtle, which is no thing to the mind, which you can't negate. Sometimes it plays like, you know, like something... It might come and it's like a bliss or like a fulfillment. And then you sort of start chasing it. It gives you the idea, you know, oh, maybe that's it. So you start chasing, looking for it, you know? I say that, you know, you stay as the awareness of it. Don't get caught in it, otherwise you'll be chasing all your life. You are it, you know? If you are not there to experience the comings and goings, the comings and goings cannot be.
So, I know exactly what you're saying, because it happens to me and I know a lot of them do too. You get those experiences that come and go and some of them, you know, you're in a pure bliss, for whatever lasts. But you are a plupus all the time. Right. What happens to the ones that it does happen that they see the actual fall of the self and all of a sudden they see, well, according to what they say, different. Now, apparently, what they say is also that that state that they actually experience there and then is states within all the way through. You know, I was speaking for myself, so in my case, I don't have that all the way through.
I have on and off, on and off, on and off. So what is the difference? Why is it that such a person, well, like some of them will experience what through stays always the same and some of us doesn't? What is it? Who differentiates? Can you have a look and see who it is? If you're not relating to the idea of the self, it's differentiating. If you're not, the on and off is just different ways that it vibrates into pattern, shape and form. So you're not calling it on and off, you just leave it as it is. Okay. Yeah. But you're relating, and subtly relating to a me again when it becomes on and off, who to?
So it's just ourselves switching on and off? Yes. So is it correct to say, now this is what I heard, actually I don't know if anyone has seen it on YouTube, I was watching last night, Alan Watts, I don't know if you've heard of him. Yeah. He was saying, I heard it for the first time last night, he said that we actually choose if we want to be awakened or not, ourselves. Is that the case? Who's the we that can be choosers? Well, this is... See, who's the choice maker? Yeah. It's got to be me. Yeah. It really is a conceptual limit. That's right. So...
So choices will be made. You know, the difference is choices will be made, but when you're relating to a choice maker... Well, there you go. Yeah. ...not sure, it's not related to that, it's just what's happening. Yeah. Differentiation will happen in this manifestation. Wind will be blowing one minute and it might be calm the next. Yeah, because I heard that last night... Nobody out there making a choice. Yeah. It makes sense. And also all the ideas about coming and going, about things that are, you know, coming to me or I'm experiencing in, or I've seen the fall of the identity, because yeah, that was my experience.
I actually have seen what the conceptual image that was made of thought, and then suddenly I've seen the belief dying out of it. But now, what is the experience right now? Am I relating to the memory and dragging that memory there in my head as a thought to say that it's there all the time? So what you're saying is even though they have that... Yeah. ...it still goes back somewhere we know it. Or, you know, what... Yeah. ...we experience, same thing. It doesn't change. Exactly. So the only way that you can actually experience the aliveness and the freshness of the present is this moment. Yeah.
And whether the moment prior to it you were totally gone in the thoughts... Yeah. ...or moment next to it you will be gone, it doesn't matter. What matters is just this. It is really moment to moment experiencing. You just got to go with the flow and the continuous changes as they come and go. Yeah. What? And they're not important changes. No, that's right. Don't recognise that that's the me. Don't recognise that that's the me. Yeah. And that's the way it is. Yeah. And that's the way it is. Yeah. Don't recognise that that's the me. Don't differentiate it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And you're relating to some fixed idea.
Yes. But not differentiating it, just as it is, as it is, means it's unopened, unmodified, uncorrect. My greatest release was, you know, when the so-called me, you know, the personal was removed, so to speak, you know, and impersonal always is. OK. How did that happen? Just, just, just... He don't pay attention to me. to your mind you don't pay attention to your your ideas of the me and the ego and you know you just allow it to be you just simply you know allow the existence to flow as existence stuff we're trying to control you know it's trying to make you know the Sun gets up at 735 instead of 725 you know so you know we try to overpower over control to separate service for our own individuality yeah so remove the me a lot as it is you know whatever it is and just being that it just just automatically happened it's like reversing the glove you know away from you to what is and and me is just another thought like the the there is a content of seeing there are different objects in the space the content of hearing sounds in the space and the content of thinking that different thoughts in the head and I is just another thought it's just one more thought it really the difference between in Bob and you or anyone is one thought whether that thought is present on the screen of awareness or is not present and occasionally he's got that thought present on the screen of awareness and he's flirting I mean the thoughts there is no him the thoughts are coming like yesterday he was laughing that we were actually mocking each other and joking from the ideas of being a non affectionate victim of putting me in danger when he was riding the scooter in front of a car and then we just had a laugh all day about it but there was an in moment in which the thought presented itself oh it was called and that thought took the stage of life for a second and then the recognition came about oh this is assault and then another thought came about and took the stage of life but there was nobody there who says this thought is good this thought is bad you weren't judging it yeah yeah yeah so they all allowed and this is the deepest love i imagine when bob mentioned love love is when the preferences are totally gone everything that shows up is beloved everything even if your father is dying or there is the pain in the body only if you witness the the body falling apart it's and it's still allowed and it's still accepting what is on the deepest level is even appreciated yes in a way it's seen as a miracle as a as a great beauty because because you know it's not real you know it is essentially all made of nothing that form itself to atoms vibrations and it makes it holy it makes it and i think probably i'll speak for myself um when you do have an experience you do want to everlasting and it doesn't yeah it doesn't ever last no experience yes and then you sort of wait for another one of course when you're waiting doesn't happen yeah and when you're not waiting you just become another one comes up yeah but nisargadatta says nothing perceivable or conceivable is it that will be all content every experience the most profound experience will have beginning and an end yeah we have to accept that the unacceptable Well you can't see it yeah nisargadatta says have a courage to be as nothing with that courage this is the outmost this is the deepest yes zero yes and now what you're gonna resist the whole conditioned everything that occurs every single thing that occurs for you yeah we take to be personal yeah that's right it's me having an experience now not having the experience.
That's what that means. And there's even the thinking of that. I'm now experiencing this. Now I'm not experiencing this. Those thoughts, I'm now experiencing this, or those thoughts, I'm now not experiencing this, are completely impersonal. They have absolutely nothing to do with you. They just arise. So it's seeing that. Just seeing that. And if you can be aware of that, you can't be that. If you can be aware of that, it's not possible for you to be that. And that includes any sort of desire. Like the desire to wake up. I want to see it differently. I want to wake up. I want to understand or grasp.
Those thoughts, they have emotional components. There is a longing to them. The physical is getting contracted because I don't want this, I want that. Even this. I guess back in that from time to time, I have to say... Oh, absolutely. I've been in that for years. Total devotion to the desire of embracing that greatness of oneness. Absolutely. And it was tormenting and it was elating and it was doing all sorts of... It's you. It's us at times. It makes you suicidal. At times it makes you desperate. At times it makes you ecstatic. And those thoughts, they have emotional components. They affect the body, they affect your breathing.
And they're still just impersonal appearance made on the screen of awareness. That somehow got so well fueled by the energy of belief that they become all there is. They become such a strong sense of reality. But this is again just another dream. Totally impersonal. Happening to no one. I know exactly what you're saying. Spot on. Because sometimes I say, I'm going to walk out of it. I say, walk out of what? And who's there to walk? Both Terry and Kat mentioned impersonal. And that's what needs to be seen. It is an impersonal self. There is no self that will ever realize. There's no self that ever can be a lie.
We're no personal self I'm talking about. It can never be a lie. It's the one self that's appearing and expressing. So self awareness is the self that's aware. Self knowing is the self that's knowing. That soul self is the one eternal, non-conceptual, ever fresh presence awareness. Not a personal self. There never was a person to be a personal self. So who's ever separate from it? If the knowing there is a self knowing. Sol. S-O-L-E. Let S-O-U-L. The soul knowing. That's the soul knowing. The self knowing. The self seeing. The soul aware. You are that. The capacity to be fully aware of whatever it was that might be going on in my head.
If you could, if you had, like you have an awareness of what it is that comes and goes in your own mind, yeah? So if you had the capacity to somehow be aware of everything that was going on in my head, how long do you think you'd be interested in it for? Not long. Not long. Why not? Why not? Because nothing there for me. I mean, you know, what I say for me is nothing there that would interest me. Yeah. That's interesting. That's interesting. And you also need to be, you need, you would need to be over there to be aware of what's happening here, wouldn't you?
Yeah? So it's a, there's a subtler gap between you being aware of what it is that's going on in here. Mm-hmm. And the idea of a self that's either got this or hasn't got this, or it comes and goes and I'm still trying to get it. Why are you more interested in that than this? That what would be happening here? Mm-hmm. Why? Because sometimes you just focus on the wrong thing. It's habit. Yeah. It's just habit. It is. It's habit. It's exactly right. It's what we've always done. Yeah. That's exactly right. It's a condition that needs to be broken down. That's considered personal. Yeah. That's considered personal.
Yeah. That's right. Yeah. That's right. Attachment. That's me. That's my thoughts. That's right. But you need to- They're yours. Correct. But you would, ah, they're not your thoughts. That's the difference. Yeah. I'm the same. Yeah. We look at it. Sure. I look at it as like you said. I consider this as being my thoughts. Yeah. So they're strong. Then yours, well, they're his problem. Yeah. Yeah. But the key there is that if you can be aware of mine or you can be aware of yours- Same thing. How can you be it? You've got to treat it the same, in other words. That's what I'm saying.
Yeah. It's very impersonal. Yeah. You know, the, the, the, look, if I'm not choosing what it is that's going on in my head, how can I take ownership of it? Yeah. How? Of course it's impersonal. Very simple. Yeah. Yeah. It just happens. And we take ownership of it, you know. That, that you were talking about before, um, and Kat touched on it, you know, that, that sense of presence or that sense of awareness. Yeah. We're that all the time. But the problem is that we identify that sense of presence or that sense of awareness with the body. Yeah. We think it's this. Yeah. And yet, in here, we're told, you're not the mind, you're not the body.
So we negate that sense of presence or that sense of awareness because we go, it can't be this, I've got to let go of that. It's got to be something different to what I'm already experiencing. But that sense of presence or that sense of awareness has nothing to do with this. This, this, this is the, the reason for that sense of presence or that sense of awareness. That sense of presence or that sense of awareness projects this. And experiences through that. Yeah. And, and through you. And through you, of course. Through all the... Through a tree. Um, on that, you, you're right, what you're saying.
I, I've started last time on Twitter that I came in and I was like, I'm not going to do this. I'm not going to do this. I'm not going to do this. And then I went to Twitter and I came in, my mum passed away. And I, once she passed away I could see her, her, her energy, you know, dissipating in the body. And when she passed away I was telling you one last time I came in the catbot wasn't here. I saw her, I've seen her body as a, just a suit. Right? It just, there was nothing there without that consciousness or you know, it's nothing there.
Life essence. Yeah. Yet, when I experienced that, I felt that, I could see that, I could understand 100%, I didn't feel like, I didn't even feel like crying, nothing. It was just normal, right? But yet, like you said now before, then it's like you forget, not forget, I don't know what it is. You seem then to relate to the body from time to time again. And that's when you sort of lose yourself again. Because you don't stay with what you've experienced, yes, but you can't keep it there all the time. It's just breaking that condition, that mind, that connection. See, that's habit pattern. Yes. The habit pattern, when you break them, they might come up again and you'll see, oh, there it is again.
But to recognise again, that's a habit. That habit's been reinforced from the time you could first learn to reason. Thinking that every day, you reinforce it yourself. Everybody around you. It's reinforced. So it's seemingly solemn, substantial. But when you recognise it's got no power in an independent nature, what are you going to do? Recognise again and again and again that there's nothing there. Yes. Yes, recognition. Because in the whole appearance, there is dance of attention and the patterns are getting the attention. Like sometimes the body plays out on the screen and the body gets attention. And it gets looked after or it gets healing or it gets wasted.
Yes. But it gets the attention. And then thoughts get attention. And then ideas, relationships, jobs, everything just, it's like a stage of life and attention. Yes. Giving life to different objects in that stage of life. But recognising them all, moment to moment, as impersonal, as just, oh yeah, that's what's going on in the theatre or in the movie. Yeah, becoming aware of it. On the screen. A lot of times I do. A lot of times I do. As I said, there's the odd time where I'll get frustrated with myself. Or, you know, you get involved and then I'll quickly realise and get out of it.
You know what I mean? But just to look it even out. It's just a new habit of recognition moment to moment. And that's not you doing it. It just comes up. Yeah. It's interesting to see how there can be that resistance in the mind. I had an experience a few months ago where I was able to get eyes, that voice, you know, that you can identify with in the mind. That thinks it's the kind of the seeker, the searcher. And realising that that's just a voice. Yes. And then right upon recognising that, I had this very strong energy come up my legs up into my upper body.
And I kind of lost the ability to walk properly for a period of about five or ten minutes. It was a very unique experience. And I just accepted it for what it was because I was in a good place. But it did make me reflect on how in a way the scene can be sort of threatening to this non-existent mind in some way. Yeah. We say the mind doesn't exist. But something that life has been threatened by itself, or I've said was threatened by a kind of seeing, all of a sudden I'm trying to walk along the street like some kind of drunkard. You know, and it was a very strange experience that allowed me to see almost as if something didn't like me seeing.
As long as the recognition was there, there was something beyond it. And also if everything is the beloved, so is the ego. Yeah. So is that conceptual image which is totally made of thoughts. And it's totally false, totally fake. But so is so many things. Earth was flat at some point. Santa Claus was bringing us gifts. Those are all fake too. And those were cherished as well. So the way actually, the only way I found to kill the ego is just shower it with love. Because when you do that, you're already disassociated from that conceptual image. And this is just... How would you do that?
You can't do it. It just has to come up. It's just the accepting, really, isn't it? Yeah. Or whatever is in front of you. Exactly. Whatever the way the life plays itself in this moment, it may play itself as the contraction or as jealousy or as any sort of an image or self-concern. If the recognition comes up, oh, that's the content that is being known. And I am the knowing of it. And the content is just the content. Just like a sound of a passing tram. Here is the idea of personal, seemingly personal idea. But it's just another content. It's no different than any other.
And then if it's recognized without the resistance, because if I say, oh, this is the ego, I've got to stop it. Well, of course, who is stopping? Who's doing the stopping? It's the ego just shifted itself to another sense of identification that is strong and persistent and personal. So the recognition, it really comes up. That's why Bob says it's actually seemingly helpful to expose yourself to that type of talks because it creates certain frequency which can be resonated with. The resonance happens on the level of the heart. There is no resonance in thinking because thinking there is logic comes in and it can trash it all down as bullshit.
But the resonance comes from another place. And this resonance brings the moments of resonance. It brings the moments of recognition, the moments of the pattern of thinking and associating with the body, with the thought breaking and having that moments of being present with the senses, with hearing, seeing, tasting, touching, smelling and being the knowing of the content of the senses and thinking. But it can't be done, unfortunately, because the one who would be doing it would be the problem. So all I say is that everything is left as it is without a place where you can expect acceptance or rejection, no pleasure, no pain, no happiness.
Everything is left as it is. And what is, means unaltered, unmodified, uncorrected. What can alter it, modify it or correct anything? Only another thought. There's no acceptance, no rejection, no compassion, no love, everything is just as it is. And what comes up will come up and that will be left as it is too. So what comes up is what comes up will come up. And the experiencing will be pure experiencing, just as it is. And what is isn't? Isn't isn't a part of the verb to be. It's beingness itself as is. Not as it was or will be, but just as it is, right here, right now, ever fresh as you are.
Presence awareness. Negate that if you can. You can put all sorts of concepts that will seemingly block it. But that's what we've been doing all along. You know, conceptualising it, trying to grasp it with the mind. And you can never grasp it with the mind because there's no such thing as mind when you do this. Mind is only what they say, an evanescent ripple on the screen. It's only a shadow picture on that screen, on that basic stillness and emptiness. What substance has a thought got? What power has it got? You realise a thought has got no substance whatsoever. No power. How long is a thought lasting?
Have a look at your mind and see where yesterday's thoughts are now. Or where the thoughts were half an hour ago. Is there anything static there that's lasting? You realise it's constantly changing. So you think this thing which we call mind is nothing but, as they say, evanescent ripples on the screen. Mind is just a movement of energy, a vibration of energy like everything else in this manifestation. Right? A vibrating pattern. A vibration of energy. This is the best and the most effective and the most beautiful advice. Because what can the individual do if individual is a fiction? It can't do nothing. So Bob says either leave it as it is.
I mean, don't touch it. There is no you to touch it. But, you know, if you've got to do something, just full stop. Don't do anything. Because you are nothing. So how can you do anything? As a nothing, you just basically leave everything as it is. And that's actually... That's actually the way to be about everything. Whatever comes up, strong emotions or resistance or whatever. If you are the nothing, the knowing of it, you don't have to do absolutely nothing about it. Yeah, I know. So that's really... That's what the individual or the ego can do. Just stop disturbing. Just do nothing. Pretend you don't exist.
That's the best thing for the ego to do. Don't try to fix it. Don't try to correct it. Don't try to wake up. It's not going to work. Just pretend. Just pretend you're not there. One thing I found very easy, you know, in my early days especially, is just simply be in the now. Simply be in the now. I mean, when I walked in, you know, at 22, 20 to 10 this morning, whatever time it was, that can never be. I can think about it. I can subconsciously recall it. But that's gone. This is here and now. And that's gone. And this is the only time.
This is now. And who is this now? Who is this? What is this now? See, you've got to question this. What is this now that never comes and never goes? It's a presence. A presence, absolutely. Yeah. But you cannot... Words... Words... You cannot describe it with words. You can only go so far with words. And they're going to require... It doesn't do justice. Thanks, God. I remember years ago reading something about... I don't know if it's a book or a book. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I remember years ago reading something from Ramana, maybe Nasaggata, about the definition of love and love is space.
And that's kind of arising right now in relation to what Kat's talking about. Because when we are seemingly caught in a very strong eye pattern, it's about sitting and being, but it's also about the space. It's actually an act of love. Not to resist. Not to push. push away but just to be there knowing that that will pass and so for me it's not just pretending i'm not there it's actually just be the space which is love itself and that that will take care of whatever's arising in the seemingly apparent idea of an i self there yeah so that's what arises in response to what you say cool because it's still in the head pretending not to be there it's still doing something and it's more about um being the space itself it's more like a joke to say pretend you're not there because you are not there exactly you've never been there yeah but the space is somehow because i i've had deep um when um i don't i don't want to say the story but there was a place within me that i was so caught in in tremendous grief and actually the turnaround for me one day was just really almost imagining a little girl in absolute helplessness and despair and it was almost like and just holding her and there was something really powerful about doing that there was a new imagination but it's not like fully desiring it to be there not resisting it in relation to your question you know like to fully let yourself desire that messed up child or that angry self or not resist it because when we resist we actually make it more real but if we deny it that's our head denying it too so it's about again coming back to space yeah um that's my yeah if you can drop the idea of an image and and return to your natural self in a you're not doing it anyway but if it happens but it's so important to let that sobbing happen or that that like you know that just um well you can't stop it you can't stop it so it's not to resist that or judge that but let that fully be there that leave it as it is without trying to touch it there's no moment here we've said pretend to be anything but point out consistently i'm not teaching you anything i'm not telling you i'm asking you to look at this and see for yourself and then you won't hear a pretense when you really investigate it on the floor because you see the factual the fact of your own being which you're coming to go sometimes the opposite of something comes up to counter something as opposed to just not leave as opposed to leaving something that's what she said pretending to be an individual is such an old habit and such a faulty one you might recognize i'm not speaking to anybody i'm not speaking to anybody i'm not speaking to any moment of that body mind out of there i'm speaking to that i am that i am i am that sense of presence anybody there that's the i am i'm speaking to take all the pretense and all the off what are you with that sense of i am this aren't you present and aware basically okay time's caught up with us thanks
